The Grandparents
by Drew Miller

"Come on," Rebecca called to her son Nick. They were going to their grandparents' who lived out of town. It took three hours to get there and it was a boring ride. Nick was 10 years old and he didn't like going to his grandparents because every he saw them, his Grandma and Grandpa would always go up to him and pinch his cheek and say he was so cute. Nick did not like that at all!

When they got there, they unloaded their things and went inside. As soon as Nick went into the house, his grandparents went up to him, pinched is cheek and said he was so cute. Nick was smiling, but you could tell he didn't feel like smiling. He took his things to his room, put his stuff away, and lay down on the bed for a few minutes. It wasn't long before he fell asleep.

He began to dream that he could make a cure so his grandparents wouldn't pinch their grandchildren's cheeks and say they're so cute. When he woke up, he remembered the dream and tried to think of a way to make a cure. Then it came to him. He remembered an experiment he did in school and thought it would work in this situation, so he got down to work. He was interrupted to go and eat dinner, but he returned to the task. He collected baking soda, vinegar, salt and pepper. Nick thought that this would work for the formula he was using. An hour later, he was done.

He went into the kitchen and saw that his grandparents each had a drink. He poured a little of his formula into each of their drinks. He didn't get to see if his grandparents took a sip, because his mother called and said they had to leave. He hoped his grandparents drank some of the formula, because you know what happens if they didn't!

A month later, they returned to Nick's grandparents. When the door opened, his grandparents did not come up to him and say he was cute and pinch his cheeks. Instead, they didn't say anything to him. Nick did not like it! He ran to his room and started to make a new formula to make them do that cute stuff again because he missed it.

Two hours later, he was finished. He went into the kitchen and saw that his grandparents were having another drink. He put the potion in their drinks. Then his mom said they had to leave.

A month later, they returned and Nick's grandparents said he was so cute, and pinched his cheeks. For the first time ever, Nick liked it. Everything was back to normal.

The Night Before Christmas
by Devon E. Currah

One cold and foggy Christmas eve night, I was snuggled in my warm and cozy bed. Then suddenly I heard a noise. It sounded like somebody was crying. I quickly and quietly got on my fuzzy bath robe and Santa-like slippers, and tiptoed down all of the squeaky stairs. I opened the cold and icy door. The moon was shining brightly and there I saw a crying elf named Lulu!

I thought, "Why is there a crying elf in my front yard?"

Lulu told me, "I came to deliver all of the presents."

"Why?" I asked Lulu.

"Because Santa forgot it is Christmas tomorrow," said the elf.

When I looked up, I saw a bright red nose! "Is that Rudolf?" I asked Lulu.

"Yup," yelped Lulu. "Why did you take the reindeer with you?" I asked Lulu. For the first time, Rudolf answered my question!

"We came so that Lulu could deliver all of the presents," said Rudolf in a deerish voice.

"Have you both tried to wake Santa up?" I asked Rudolf and Lulu.

"Sure we have," cried Lulu. "I will call Mrs. Claus and see if she has been able to wake Santa yet," said Lulu.

Lulu and I quickly jumped into the sled. Lulu shouted, "Yah!" and before we knew it we were at the North Pole. We told Mrs. Claus to try and wake Santa before it was too late. Then I tried and I woke him up!

"How did you do that?" asked Lulu, Rudolf and Mrs. Claus in an excited tone.

"I just tickled him. It even works for my family," I told them. I quickly turned around and saw Santa in his puffy red suit.

"He always forgets to wake up," said Lulu.

"Remember," I said, "tickle him whenever he forgets." Then I sighed. I said in a low voice, "Now all of the magic in Santa will be gone."

"Oh," said Lulu, don't be so sure about that!" Then Rudolf said, "If you are in the North Pole with us, the magic will not be gone!" I grinned.

"Now, let's take you home and make sure you have a merry Christmas," said Santa. So, Santa brought me home and I had the best Christmas ever!

P.S. I got an extra present from Santa because I helped him wake up from his sleep!

The Great Gift
by Daniel Fernandes

"Yes! It's my birthday tomorrow," April shouted. "One more day! I can't wait."

April was going to turn ten, and her mother asked her where she wanted to go.

"Let's go to Two on Two Arcade," April answered.

"O.K., I'll book the time for you," her mom said.

"I'm going to invite George, Jessica, Tina, Maria, John and Sabrina," April said.

"I'm going to invite Michael, Teddy and Joe," April's two year old brother said.

"No, Jerry, it's not your birthday. It's April's birthday," his mom explained.

"No, no, no! It's my birthday, no April," Jerry complained. He started to cry and ran to his room.

"O.K., time for bed. There's a big day coming up for you tomorrow," her mother said.

The next day, April went to school and handed out the invitations to her friends.

"Sorry, April, I can't come. I have visitors," John said.

"It's okay," April said.

After school, April got the loot bags, the balloons and party hats ready. It was  only one more hour until her party started. April played her Game Boy while waiting for the party.

One hour passed and April and her family were waiting for the people she had invited. As soon as the people arrived, they ran in with their cards and started playing. Then they ate cake and played games. Finally time came to open the gifts. Sabrina gave her a Barbie, Tina gave her a Toy Story game for Game Boy, Jessica gave her a Back Street Boys CD, George gave a Pokemon for Game Boy, and Maria gave a gift certificate from A&B Sound and last but not least, her mother, father, and brother gave her a family trip to Disneyland.

"Thanks Mom, Dad, and Jerry, This gift is the best." A few days went by and then it was time to go to Disneyland.

When they arrived there, they went to all the rides, took photographs with all the Disney characters, and had breakfast with Mickey Mouse and Goofy. April's dad took her on the Drop of Doom. It was the scariest ride that April had ever experienced. They returned home the next day.

They arrived home safely. "Home, sweet, home," all of them said together.

Baby Blues

by Darren Young

One day, there were two people who loved to play the saxophone, and they had a little baby. The little baby’s name was Blues. One day, his parents gave him a toy saxophone, and believe it or not, even though the toy saxophone could only play two notes, little baby Blues had already made a song and had recorded it on a tape recorder. As soon as baby Blues’ parents saw what had happened, they started to save up enough money, so when baby Blues was old enough he could get a real saxophone and become a great hit, like them.

At the age of 12, Blues was starting Junior High School and seemed very anxious to join the school band Just before Blues went to his first day at Junior High School, his parents gave him his first real saxophone and then dropped him off at school. After his first day in Junior High School, Blues had already made the school band, the wrestling team and the chess team. He was so happy with his new saxophone that as soon as he got home, he went straight to practice his music after he had already spent the afternoon practicing his wrestling techniques and his chess moves. He started to play harder pieces of music than he was supposed to but he mastered them all in one day. After his first day of Junior High School, everything was smooth sailing for Blues. He won the gold cup for being the best player in the chess club, won against the toughest schools in the wrestling tournament, and won for the school a shining gold cup for being the best school band to play jazz.

After college, Blues took his saxophone and went to find an agent so he could make a CD. He wanted to make a CD of jazz music. After Blues found his agent, he was taken to a sound studio and made his first musical hit called “IF I COULD FLY.” This song made Blues thousands of dollars. His first song was a great hit so he started to record another song and another and another. Blues was doing great, until he found out that other musicians were being put down in the music business because of him. Then one day, his agent told him that he could get higher ratings if he started his own band. Blues rushed to his car and went to get the other musicians and asked them if they would like to start a band. After they talked and agreed to start a band, Blues brought them to the studio where they went straight into recording groovy music.

I Love My Family

by Devon Currah

One day in the forest there was a beautiful blue and purple mansion. A family lived in it. It had a mother named Agnes, a farther named John, two sisters named Devon and Victoria. Five aunts named Auntie Grace, Auntie Greta, Auntie Peggy, Auntie Joann, and Auntie Is. Three uncles named Uncle Gene, Uncle Michael, and Uncle Cameron. And don’t forget cousins, their names are Ross, Sean, Drew, Richelle, Conner, Mackenzie, and Madison.

We all loved each other very much. One day there was a noise in the middle of the night, it sounded like someone opening the door! I jumped out of bed, got on my robe and slippers and tiptoed down the stairs hoping it was my cousins. I was scared but I opened the door and there I saw my Grandparents! They came all the way from California! I ran up the stairs and woke up my parents and they yelled, “Yes, they made it!”

And I had the best birthday EVER!

Let Me Out!
by Danielle Brodeur

I am a cat! One day I was following a girl to school because her backpack smelt like tuna.

She got on a bus! I had to catch that bus. So I jumped on the bus bumper. I sat on there a long time, until the bus stopped. I jumped off and ran inside, looking out for people that might step on me! Soon I heard a loud ringing sound.

“Yeow,” I said. I ran into a class. “Let me out! Let me out!” I jumped in a box, “Meow!” It’s dark. “Let me out!” Soon a girl saw me. She picked me up and put me in a bigger box. “Ah!”   Plop! What the? I threw out my claws and started to scratch my way out! Finally I got out and ran out of there.

Soon I saw outside and ran to it. But someone was closing it. I ran as fast as I could and got out. I ran as fast as my legs could carry me and I went home, went in my cat door and Jane was there to greet me. We had dinner and sat by the fire and fell asleep. We were a happy pair! I love Jane. She is the best pet in the whole world.
