The Haunted House
by Devon Currah

There once lived two detectives named Lucy and Holly. They were very good detectives, but now they had a very difficult mystery to solve - "The Haunted House Mystery".

Their problem was to find out why there are spooky things in the haunted house. They knew that haunted houses were supposed to be spooky, but they wanted to know why a nice skeleton was in the haunted house.

Lucy and Holly asked their mother for permission to go to the haunted house. When they got there, the nice skeleton they called Herman ran up to them. They asked him how he got to be a nice skeleton, and he told us he just wanted to be different from the others.

"Case closed," Lucy said. From then on, they visited the skeletons everyday and they all became nice, like Herman.

Gravedigger
by David MacArthur

One dark and stormy night, Timmy, a little boy heard a noise coming from his window. Outside his window, there was a graveyard. He looked out and saw it was a gravedigger. He ran to his mom's bedroom, and said, "There's a gravedigger in the graveyard."

They ran to his room and saw that the gravedigger was climbing up the wall of the house. They were scared! The gravedigger had blood all over his shirt. He was getting closer. Finally, he reached the window. They were panicking. He had bigger teeth than Dracula. And they looked sharp. He broke the glass from the window and climbed in and said, "Do you have a cookie?"

The Trap
by David Wong

"Hey, wake up," said Carla.

"There is a present for us at the front door," said Mom.

"And it is right here," said Dad. I unwrapped the wrapper and opened it. Out jumped a metal dog. It was so cute and Carla and I both wanted it. It was happy to be a part of this family.

"Halloween is tomorrow. Could we go camping?" we said at the same time.

"Not on Halloween, but the next day," said Mom.

"Alone," we said.

"Of course," said Dad.

After Halloween, we went to the Forest of Goods. My sister and I wanted to explore first. We went into the forest, but stepped into a hole and fell through. They went into a path with their metal dog, Bow-Wow. A knight popped out of nowhere and said, "Get lost or battle." They had nowhere to go, so they wanted to battle. The Bow-Wow ate the knight with a gulp.

They kept on going until some blobs attacked them. They did not get injured or hurt.

"Go, Bow-Wow," I said. Bow-Wow knocked them off the cliff. They saw a tunnel and ran to it. The cyclops had walked in there and rested for awhile. It was sleepwalking and fell off the cliff too. In the tunnel, witches' had a party and behind Carla the Cyclops climbed back up. John had a plan . They got ready for the plan and the Cyclops blew up into pieces. The witches noticed. They chased them up to the wizard's home. The witches were scared of wizards. They tried to run, but it was too late. The wizard turned the witches into stone.

Then they used a spell and it took them back home.

Sponge
by David Manuntag

About three years ago, I was in the kitchen washing the dishes. I had always been saying to my mom for the past three months to replace the sponge, but they never wanted to. I had been begging them, but they still didn't want to. When I was washing the dishes, the sponge started making weird noises. Then it started to giggle in my hand. Then I was so scared that I dropped the sponge into the sink. The sponge started to grown legs and arms and before you knew it was growing eyes and a mouth. After about 5 minutes, it started to walk out of the sink.

But it couldn't get out because it was too slippery. That it started to talk, "Why can't I get out of this type of cube?" Then out of nowhere, he  started to grow a tie, pants and leather shoes. He looked really funny so I went to put him in a cage. While I was carrying him to a cage, he tried to resist. But I was stronger than him.

When he got into the cage, he tried to escape. He tried everything even climbing the metal bars but then he got so tired. He turned into a regular sponge.

Witch Versus Warlock

By Darren Young

At a convention for wizards, witches and warlocks, there was a contest to see who was the most powerful, and who had more strategies than the others.  Whoever won the contest would get more powers than ever and be more knowledgeable than anyone for one day and one night.

Now there was a little boy who was 206 years old, and was able to just enter by one year.  The little boy’s name was Merlin, named after the great wizard himself who started the contest in the first place.  After Merlin put in his application to enter, he got home and started practicing on his potions.  He made sure that he got them right by trying them out on a sheep and turned it into a half dragon-half butterfly sheep with tentacles as feet.  Merlin got into bed early because the contest was going to start first thing in the morning.

The next morning, Merlin hopped out of bed grabbed all the pouches that had his magic potions, and rushed to the contest just in time.  He was first up to fight against a warlock his age.  The warlock started off with a blast of lightening but Merlin stopped it with a shield and turns the warlock into a firefly before he could block it.

The next contestants were a witch and a wizard, and the wizard was so powerful that it only one spell and it was over.  The witch was a toad in a flash and it was all over.  It was an hour before Merlin fought again and he won all of his fights by block and attack but nobody saw that except the warlock that fought him in the beginning.

After all the preliminary rounds, it came down to the final fight between Merlin and the other powerful wizard.  While there was a break the two wizards made more potions for the big battle.  As Merlin was about to finish with his potions, the other wizard came up to him, to say good luck and he told him his name for no reason at all and then looked at the bets for who is going to win.  The bell sounded for everyone to get back to their seats and the two finalists to come back to the ring.  The referee said to start and that was what they did.  They both jumped back and one unleashed a fireball and one unleashed a lightening bolt and they kept at it for some time.  Merlin got a shield and dodged the attack and turned into a dragon to shoot an amazing amount of magic fire out of its mouth, and destroyed the shield he had up and turned the other wizard into a rabbit.

After he turned back to normal, Merlin took the prize and wrote all he learned from the power into seven books and put them in a bag and gave the prize power to his competitor, smiled and took off with the books.

The Scariest Night in My Whole Life

 By Drew Miller

One gloomy, foggy Halloween night Drew was in his room reading scary Halloween stories. He was so excited. It was October 31st and Drew was going trick-or-treating. Nick and Keaton were going with him. Drew was going to be a zombie, Keaton was dressing as a goblin and Nick was going to be a vampire.

After Drew was done reading, it was dinnertime. When dinner was over, he put his costume on and went to Nick’s house. After Nick put his costume on, the two boys went to Keaton’s house. Keaton was ready to go. They all looked very scary and happily left to go trick-or-treating. First they went in their neighborhood. When they were done, they had tons of candy. Then they saw this dark, gloomy house. It was right by the cemetery. They all wanted to go in but then they remembered that their moms had said that they couldn’t go there. Next, Nick said, “Who cares, they won’t know!”

Keaton and Drew reluctantly agreed to go. They tentatively went up to the dark and creepy house. When they were on the steps they heard a strange noise. They thought it was the stairs creaking so they kept going. They yelled, “Trick-or-treat”! A little, old pruney lady opened the door. Drew and Keaton were scared! They asked Nick if they could leave now but there was no answer. They turned around and they didn’t see anyone. Nick was gone! When they turned back the lady was gone too!

The door was still open so they both went inside to look for Nick. The house was dark, no light, just pitch black. When they turned left they fell down through a trap door. The two boys thought they would get hurt but they landed right on a pile of clothes. Drew and Keaton didn’t know where they were but then Drew found a door. They shivered as they opened the door.

When they went through the door they saw a light. The boys were really frightened. Tingles traveled up and down their spine. Their teeth chattered. They both walked slowly up the hall. When they went through another door and into the light they saw Nick and Ms. Morrissette, their teacher. Ms. Morrissette admitted that she was the witch! They all screamed, “Hurray,” and Ms. Morrissette gave them some candy. The boys said thank you and gave her a warm hug. Then they left and went home. It was a spooky, scary, fun Halloween night!!!
