The Funny Surprise
by Elizabeth Bessette
Once upon a time there were two girls named Emily and
Elizabeth. These girls had been best friends ever since they were born.
One year, on Emily's 10th birthday, she had a sleepover party, with her
friends Heather, Katrina, Alexa, Amanda, Engelica, Lorel, Kayla, Lindsey,
Erin and Elizabeth.
That night they all told very scary ghost stories . In the
morning, around 11:00, all the girls had gone home except Elizabeth. She
was staying the day to play. Emily and Elizabeth rode their bikes around
the block. When they were half way around, they went past a very creepy
looking house. It was built two years ago, but everyone thought it was
haunted.
When they got home, they played Truth or Dare. Emily to go
up to the old haunted house, ring the doorbell, and say 'I am selling
mouthwash and I think you need a bottle.'
Elizabeth said, "Fine, but you have to stand is at
the bottom of the stairs." Emily agreed. The girls told Emily's mom
that they were going for a walk. When they got to the front of the house.
Elizabeth went up to the door and rang the bell. Nobody answered, so she
rang it again, and this time, the door was opened by a girl. It was
Engelica.
"Engelica!" the girls sputtered. "I didn't
know you lived here," said Emily.
"I thought this house was haunted," said
Elizabeth.
"No, no," said Engelica. "You see, two
years ago, we got somebody to build this house for us, but when we moved
in, it was three days before Halloween. This is house is really big, so we
did not have time to unpack everything before Halloween. We put our
Halloween decorations up, but got so busy unpacking that we never had time
to take them down. I kept nagging Mom and Dad, but they just kept saying
'later, dear.'
Emily invited us in and we called to ask if we could stay
and play awhile. We could stay until dinner. Engelica gave us a tour of
the house and when we got to the basement, she showed a lot of rooms, and
when they walked by a little door, they wondered what was in there.
They decided to play hide and seek, and Emily and
Elizabeth opened the little door. When they turned on the light, they saw
that it was filled with witch brooms, hats, capes, pots for brewing, and
big books of witch spells.
"Oh, no, we're trapped in a witch world,"
screamed Emily and a whole bunch of spiders came down of the roof.
Engelica came running and opened the door, and said,
"You ruined the surprise for next Saturday's party!" The girls
apologized and left because it was time for them to go home.
They told Emily's mom what had happened, and she said,
"That is what you get for having too big of an
imagination!"
Elizabeth's dad came to pick her up and when they got
home, he asked, "How was your visit with Emily?"
"Something you would think as really funny,"
said Elizabeth.
Santa Claus
by Elisse V.
It was one snowy night in Edmonton, Alberta, on the 24th
of December, when Santa Claus went to each house in the whole world in one
night.
That night at the Johnson's house, Avalon and Michael were
going to bed. Avalon and Michael were 11-year old twins. Avalon had red
hair, green eyes and freckles. Michael had brown hair, green eyes, but no
freckles. The boys were heading off to bed full of excitement.
Later, during the evening, the twins heard something that
sounded like it was coming from downstairs. "Let's go check it
out," said Avalon. They tiptoed down the stairs and down the hallway.
Michael looked around the corner of the living room and noticed a big man
by the Christmas tree.
"It's Santa," whispered Michael.
"Really? Are you sure?" Avalon asked in a
whisper. They both peeked out around the corner. In shock, they realized
that Santa was a bit different this year. He was laughing in an evil
manner, and grinning devilishly. His eyes glowed in the dark with a
mustardy yellow color. But most surprising of all, was that Santa Claus
was not putting presents under the tree, he was taking them and putting
them into his not-so-velvety sack.
They tiptoed upstairs and told their parents who called
the police right away. The person who was dressed like Santa was
handcuffed and taken away, but the twins still had a hard time falling
asleep for the remainder of the night.
The Hidden Door
by Emily Cheng
Perfect. I'm left at home babysitting my little brother,
Jordan. My parents went to a party and won't be home for hours. My parents
are having a blast while I'm stuck here watching Jordan play Nintendo
games. I really hate Jordan.
I will try to make this babysitting job fun as much as I
can. So first, I wanted to start with movies and popcorn. But guess what,
there was no popcorn, so I went down to the basement to get some. As I
crept down the creaky basement stairs, I just barely make out something
fluttering behind the ridge. I flicked on the lights nd ran tot he fridge
to investigate.
Unbelievably, there was a door! I was so curious to find
out more about the mysterious fluttering object and the door. I tried to
move the fridge with a mighty heave, but it wouldn't budge! Then I
remembered Jordan, he may be a pest, but is extraordinarily strong.
"Jordan, come down here!" I hollered. "Why
should I" he hollered back. "It's important!" I screeched.
"Alright, after this game finishes, Becky," he
yelped.
"Hurry," I yelled. Finally, after 5 minutes of
sitting on the stone cold floor, I saw Jordan bounding down the stairs in his
usual baggy clothing.
"Quick, over here!" I hissed.
"Alright, don't be so pushy," Jordan said.
"Look at this," I whispered. Jordan didn't say
anything, he just stood there, wide-eyed, mouth open.
"I know," I whispered urgently, "help me move
the fridge. Together we can make it move."
"Becky, what is that?" Jordan trembled.
"It's some kind of door," I whispered. "Well,
are you going to help me?" I asked.
Jordan nodded his head. Jordan and I gave a mighty push and
the fridge slowly started moving. Finally when the door was perfectly
noticeable, Jordan and I took a rest, huffing and puffing.
"Well, then, let's check it out," Jordan said
excitedly.
"Hold it, you don't know what could be in there," I
whispered. We both slowly crept towards the fragile door. I slowly and
steadily moved my hand toward the brass door knob. As I touched the knob,
something else turned the knob. Jordan and I backed away quickly.
All the lights went out. When I saw the door open and ajar, I
looked frantically around. All the bones in my body, were shaking badly, I
didn't know what to do. I grabbed Jordan's arm and together we looked around
us. All of a sudden, something swooped behind us. The wind from the swooping
gave me more chills up my back. Not knowing what I was doing, I pulled Jordan
to the tiny door, squeezed in with Jordan behind me.
It was pitch dark, and I could feel myself go down, down,
down. I was panicking. Where had Jordan gone? Where was I? As I swirled down
the tunnel, I could see mad clown faces, trolls, goblins, vampires and demons!
Finally after what seemed like an hour, I landed on the ground with a thud.
Then I heard another thud behind me.
"Jordan, is that you?" I whispered.
"Ye-yes," Jordan stuttered and he fell back.
"Jordan," I wept, "please wake up!" Jordan just lay there
motionless. I cried and cried, not noticing something fluttering behind me.
Suddenly, it swooped behind Jordan and I and picked us up. I was
terrified! At least Jordan was with me. Surprisingly the creature took us up
the tunnel to the tiny door. I couldn't believe it! Shaking with relief, I
pulled Jordan through the door and gave the creature a pat.
I took Jordan upstairs and lay him on the couch. He opened his
eyes, looked around puzzled and said, "Are we out of the tunnel?"
I gave him a kiss and whispered, "Yes, Jordan, we
are." When my parents got home, they asked me how it was, and all I told
them was, "You have no idea." And now I know how important my little
brother really is.
Trick-or-Treat
by Erin Vinet
It was Halloween morning, Erin was just getting up. Her mind
was on the trick-or-treating and on a sleepover she wanted to have. Her mom
had said that she could only invite two people so she could only Amanda and
Lindsay. She got up and ready for school, and asked Amanda and Lindsay to see
if they could come. They said they'd be delighted to come trick-or-treating
and a sleepover. Erin told them to bring their comb/brush, costume, pillow
case for trick-and-treating, pyjamas and slippers, Disney movies, toothbrush
and toothpaste, and a stuffy.
They were all excited. As soon as school was over, Erin got
ready. When the door bell rang, Erin jumped up with excitement. "This is
going to be the best Halloween ever," said Erin. "Maybe we could eat
dinner right now, so we can be the first ones out on the block." We ate
really fast, then we put our dishes in the sink and we were the first ones out
the door. Erin's neighbors were amazed they were first ones out on the block.
We had gone around the block two times, and when we were going to go around
the third time, we realized we were tired of walking, so we went in to watch a
movie 102 Dalmations. Then we got really tired and went up to bed.
We woke up at six in the morning. Amanda said, "I really
enjoyed the evening."
"I thought Erin had it very well planned out,"
Lindsay said. When we were at the bus stop, we were so cold, Lindsay and
Amanda actually said, "I wish the bus would hurry up or we are going back
you your house in two minutes." The bus came in 30 seconds, and they got
on and went to school.
The
Spooky Arena
by
Evan Wenger
It
all started one cold winter evening, the Knights were playing the Vipers at
Joe Louis Hockey Arena on the night before Halloween and they were in a great
battle, the score was even at one.
And
going into the third period some strange thing took place.
All of a sudden with ten minutes to go in the game, the siren
unexpectedly went on and all players, referees, coaches, and fans looked at
the timekeeper for a reason why there was a stoppage in play.
All that the timekeeper could say was, “It was not me!”
So
the game continued. Then the next
thing that happened unexpectedly, was that the light behind the net went on
and off 3 times for no reason at all. The
all players, referees, coaches, and fans looked at the timekeeper for a reason
why the lights went on and off three times.
All that the timekeeper could say was, “It was not me turning the
lights on and off!”
So
the game went on until it was over. The
next thing that happened was the referee and both teams couldn’t find their
keys for their dressing rooms. They
looked high and low but couldn’t find the keys.
They took some brooms and broke down the door.
BOOOMM! After they finally
got everyone changed, everyone was heading out of the building and suddenly
all the lights went out at the arena. It
went pitch black, and they all looked at each other and said, “What happened
to the lights?”
In
order to find a way out they felt their way out by touching the walls until
they found a door. “We found
our way out of the spooky arena!”
So
the arena manager looked in his pockets for the keys but they were gone!
He said, “I’m not going back into there to look for those keys,”
he said. “I’m going to leave
the arena unlocked so the ghosts and stuff can make their own way out so the
arena will return to normal again.”

Fried Boy

Once upon a
time there was a boy named James. James was very naughty and incredibly
stupid.
One night
James thought he would go to this house. This house had a curse. It had cobras
that would bite the person and the person would die. Being very stupid, he
wouldn’t have any knowledge of this house, so he went inside and said
“underwear.” See what I mean?
Then he went
outside and, as I said, a cobra came out and bit him in the leg and then 600
more came and he DIED!
PS: The cobras
died because of James.
The
Mistake

Hi,
I’m Jennie Jackson I’m 13 years old but I would like to tell you about my
first baby-sitting job. It all began on a Friday night in the town of New
Jersey. My mom and I were fighting over whether I could baby-sit my little
brother (Zack) that night. I kept on begging until she couldn’t take any
more. She finally gave in but was still unhappy about this whole thing. She
gave me all of the emergency telephone numbers. My mother and my father were
off to the miss Sweetie weeties ice cream convention.
I
took the opportunity to invite two of my friends over – Mel and Laura. I
called them up and asked them to come over and help. When they arrived, we
told Zack to watch TV while we talked shop. My dad at the restaurant was not
happy about how my mom gave in. He kept on worrying about us, and he tried to
call but we were on the phone calling a cute guy from school. My dad kept on
worrying about us even when my mom told him to calm down several times. My mom
finally convinced my dad to go home for a minute and check on us. The
convention was all the way across town so it took an hour to get there.
After
a little while Zack came into my room and said he was tired so I had to help
him into bed. Right before I put him to sleep we heard a strange noise
outside. Zack and I ran downstairs and saw Mel and Laura shaking. I asked them
what was wrong but they were too scared to answer. All they did was point to
the window. Zack clung to my leg and wouldn’t let go. I moved towards the
others very slowly. The blinds were closed so all we saw was a shadow which
started moving by the next window.
Mel
said, “Maybe he’s the Hannibal.”
“Mel,
you’re scaring Zack!” Laura and I yelled at the same time. The thing
outside started banging the windows.
“Quick!
To the telephone! We have to call the police!”
After
we called the police, the shadow started towards the door. Quickly we got my
brother’s train-set that he’d been playing with earlier. We hooked the
wires up to the handle so it would electrocute him or make him go away.
The
cool part is it actually worked. We heard a scream and it sounded similar to
my dad, but I didn’t want to take any tricks. About 10 minutes later the
doorbell rang I looked through the peek hole and it was the police. I opened
the door and there was my dad with handcuffs on and his hair sticking up (because
of the electrocution.)
Anyway,
I was grounded for one month because of electrocuting my dad and another
because I invited my friends over. The good part is my dad gave me 50 BUCKS
because he scared the living daylights out of me. I still baby-sit but I check
the peek hole before I guess who it is.
