The Pros and Cons of Having a Big Family
by Giovanni Saccomani
In my immediate family I have a mom, dad, sister and brother. On my father’s side I have a grandmother, four aunts, four uncles and eleven cousins. Their ages range from fourteen to three. On my
mother's side of the family I have a grandma, grandpa and three cousins. Their ages range from five to nine. I also have a few others that are like my aunts and uncles.
When our families get together for family occasions such as Christmas, it can be very interesting. Usually the kids form groups. The boys go with the boys and the girls go with the girls. Then there is some girls that go with the boys which can be a con. When we play hockey and your sister, brother or younger cousins hold you back that can be a con.
Playing on the rink with your cousins can be a pro.
When we play ball tag a pro would be everyone plays so we can hide behind more people. A con could be when we make teams and everyone wants to be on one team. Another con can be when someone says they hit you but they really didn’t.
Nintendo is interesting because the older cousins think they know it all, this can be a con, but on the other hand, you want to be paired up with them because they do know it all.
The two older cousins and I try to sneak into the computer room. This can be challenging with out any one seeing us
- we don’t like to share, which can be a pro. But when someone finds out that can be a con.
When we play the board game janga everyone wants to play. This can be a con because it takes forever to be your turn then someone already knocked it over.
When its dinner time a pro is that there is lots of food but the con is that it doesn’t come fast enough.
After dinner we want to go skating again. The con is that the kids out number the parents tying skates. The pro is that we get to go outside again. All in all I think the pros out number the cons and we are very blessed to have each other.
Grandma
Dreaming
by
Georgina Bull
Every
Friday night I went to my Grandma’s house to sleep over. We have
lots of fun eating chocolate chip cookies and telling stories by the
fire. One of the
stories my Grandma told me was about her dream that she had had when
she was a little girl sleeping at her grandma’s house.
The
dream she had was about a lost fairy called Rosie who lived in the
forest. Rosie went to visit her friend who lived just outside the
forest. Rosie and her friend called Daisy, enjoyed having tea and
cake while sitting on the oak tree branch watching the birds fly
over the trees. Rosie and Daisy loved to walk through the forest to
the waterfall. At the waterfall they would watch the squirrels climb
the trees.
On
the way they saw their friend called Flowerbud. She told them that
she had found a new way to the waterfall that was quicker. So they
took that new way.
Rosie
heard a strange noise and turned around to see what was there. Daisy
and Flowerbud didn’t see her and kept walking. When Rosie turned
back around she found she was alone.
She
shouted for Daisy and Flowerbud, but all she heard was the strange
noise again. She started running and then stopped to hide behind a
big fir tree.
She
realized she was the last and decided to wait until Daisy and
Flowerbud realized she was gone and came back for her.
The
strange noise stopped and she started running once again. It was
getting dark and so she wasn’t able to see where she was. Then she
heard the waterfall and tried to make her way towards it.
She
was nearly there but she tripped and had to stop and wait for
daylight to come.
Daylight
came and she stood up and carried on walking to the Waterfall. She
hoped that she would see her friends there, but they never came
until the afternoon arrived.
She
looked up and saw that her friends had arrived. She shouted to them
and they answered and said, “is someone calling my name?”
Rosie
shouted, “Yes it’s me Rosie!”
They
were glad that they had found Rosie and could go back home. They had
a happy life.
Grandma
said to me, “That was my dream I had. Now it is time for you to go
to bed for it is late at night. Night night, sleep tight”
