Grade 3 Fairy Tales
The Three Special Boys
by Craig Estey
Once upon a time, in a faraway land, there was a poor old man. He loved children but he didn’t have any.
One moonlit night, the poor old man saw a shooting star. He knew you should make a wish, when you see a shooting star and that’s exactly what he did.
"Star light, star bright,
First star I see tonight,
Wish I may, wish I might,
Have this wish I wish tonight."
"I wish I could have three boys. I don’t care how big or small they’ll be, as long as I have them, they will be my favorite," said the old man.
The next day when the old man awoke, he found three boys on his lap, sound asleep. He lifted the three boys off his lap carefully not to wake them up and went out to find some food.
When he got back his three boys were starting to wake up. A couple moments later, his three boys woke up and one of them said, "Where on earth are we?"
Then the other one said, "I think we’re on earth."
Next, the smartest of the three spoke up, "We are on earth, but shouldn’t you be worrying that you don’t have a name yet?"
"You’re right. How could I have forgotten that?" said the old man. So he named the first boy Bill, the second boy Edward, and the third boy Adam.
18 years later, Bill, Edward, and Adam were in college. They were about to get their jobs, but the old man was still poor. He was waiting patiently until the day his three boys would get their jobs. He
remembered when his three boys were young, they had told him the jobs that they had wanted. Bill wanted to be an accountant, the guy who puts money in an account. Edward wanted to be a cop, the guy who walks around with all that police equipment. Adam wanted to be a scientist, the weird guy who plays with chemicals.
Finally, the day had come for Bill, Edward, and Adam to get their jobs. They got the same jobs they wished for. The money from those jobs made the poor old man turn into a rich old man.
Bill, Edward, Adam and the old man lived happily ever after.

The Princess Dream
by Candace Lengle
Long, long ago, there was a princess. She lived in a castle faraway.
Her dream was to marry a prince. That day, she had gone to the village and she looked everywhere. She lived on the west side, and most of the princes lived on the south side. She wished she could go there. It was a bigger place and more crowded.
She asked her father if she could go, and he said, "No."
She said, "Why not?"
He said, "I don’t want you to get lost." She was mad, so that night, she opened the window and climbed through. She climbed on to a tree and rode her horse. He was brown. She went fast.
The next morning, her father looked in her room and saw her open window. He got scared and sad. He thought she was going to get hurt. He told her mother. She got scared and frightened. They prayed that she would
once home to their castle.
The princess went into the forest that her mom and dad had told her never to go in there. She got stuck and she got scared. Her horse ran away. Her foot was under a log and it was bleeding. She was crying a little bit because it hurt.
She stayed there over night and finally fell asleep.
In the morning, a prince came by and even though the princess was still sleeping he took her foot out of the log. He took her to his palace.
She awoke, and said, "What am I doing here?"
He said, "I brought you from the forest."
She said, "Thank you."
He said, "You’re welcome."
They liked each other and they got married.
She said, "I miss my father and mother."
He said, "I will take a ride there and they can live here with us."
She said, "OK," and they went to go get her mother and father.
They were excited and came to the prince’s castle.
They all lived happily ever after.

The New Friend
by Rebecca Ristic
One day in the deep dark woods lived a wolf named Jake. Jake was a gray wolf with a black tail.
At 5:00 Jake woke up. He climbed out of bed and walked into the kitchen. That was when he noticed that there was no food anywhere. Jake remembered that he ate all the food yesterday.
"I’d better get some more food," thought Jake. He went outside and started to walk. Then he saw two roads. He went down the left one.
He walked and walked. Soon he found a lake. Jake took a drink and kept going. He soon saw that he was near the mountains. Then he noticed a cave.
"I think I’ll sleep in that cave tonight," he said. He went inside the dark cave and looked around. Then he heard a loud roar.
"RRROOOAARRRR!"
Right after that a rockslide came down. This was followed by a
cloud of dust.
"Help me! I’m stuck in a cave!" yelled Jake. A shadow came up and a red dragon with horns walked up.
"Could you be my friend," asked the dragon.
"OK," said Jake. The dragon led the way out of the tunnel.
"This is the place with lots of food," the dragon told Jake. Jake got some food, hopped on the dragon’s back, and flew to his house.
Jake put his food away in the cupboard and went to bed.

The Fight
by Mandi Carreiro
Once upon a time, there was a fairy and a princess. They were best friends. One day the princess said the fairy was different because she had wings and magic. The princess said that because everyone liked the fairy more.
So the fairy got mad at her. The fairy went home and so did the princess.
One hour later, the fairy called her and said, "Meet me at the tower at 2:30 p.m." So the princess went. They were both angry.
The fairy said, "What you did was not very nice."
Then the princess said, "Well, you deserved it." Then they got in a big fight.
Next they went back to their own houses. The princess lived in a castle and the fairy lived in a pink flower.
One day the town got robbed. But the princess and fairy did not know about it. One month passed and they were getting lonely. Then they heard about the town getting robbed.
So the fairy went to the castle, and knocked on the door and asked to talk to the princess. The princess came to the door.
The fairy said, "I am sorry for getting mad at you."
"I’m sorry for saying that you were different," said the princess. Then they forgave each other.
Then the fairy said, "Could you not say that I am different?"
The princess said, "Yes. I think we should team up and go get the town’s stuff back."
But the fairy said, "That was a month ago."
The princess said, "I know. So we’ll have to go to the town and ask which way they went."
They both went to the town and asked which way the robber went. They pointed right. So they went down the road. They found the robber’s house and got the town’s stuff back and threw the robber in jail.

The Ugly Princess
by Laura Saretsky
Once there was a queen and king. The queen’s name was Queen Samantha and the King’s name was King Harry. They were a sad couple because a few months after the king and queen got married they had a child. Here, it was little different story. The queen and king had been married for 10 years and they still had no children.
One day, as Queen Samantha sat sewing beside the window sill, she saw a shooting star in broad daylight.
"Oh, my," she thought. "It must be a magical star. I’ll make a wish." She did just that. And you know what she wished for? She wished for a child. A few days later she gave birth to a baby girl. The kingdom was filled with happiness. King Harry held a festival in honour of the princess. One of the things in the festival was to give a name to the child. After the festival was over, Queen Samantha and King Harry would select a name. By the end of the festival, there was quite a long list. It took quite a while, but finally Queen Samantha and King Harry decided on Dorothy. It was a beautiful name.
When Dorothy turned then, she was for the first time, permitted to go into the woods all by herself. Now, in this very woods, there lived a
witch, and a very mean witch at that. Back to our story now. Dorothy was so happy that she danced. She danced by the crashing creek. She danced into the clearing where the cranky old mean witch lived. It so happens that she danced into the witch’s flowerbed and happened to step on a potion flower. To make it worse, the witch was watching the whole thing.
"Alacazam! Alackazoo! A very terrible fate shall fall upon you!" screeched the witch. At the sound of the witch’s voice, Dorothy spun around, screamed and ran. She ran out of the flower bed. She ran out of the clearing. She ran by the crashing creek. By the time she got home, she was totally out of breath and her dress was torn.
"What’s happened to you?" asked Queen Samantha.
"Oh, mother. I’m really sorry. You see, I was running through the woods, and my dress caught on a bramble," said Dorothy.
"No, not that, child. Don’t you ever look in a mirror?" said Queen Samantha. Following her mother’s orders, Dorothy went over to the mirror and looked in.
"Oh, my!" she cried. "It must be the witch’s spell! To be ugly!" The princess had been very beautiful up until now. But now she had short hair and buck teeth.
"Harry," called Queen Samantha.
"Yes," said King Harry.
"I’d like you to go into the woods to find the witch," she said.
"I’m on it!" answered King Harry. So he rounded up three knights to go with him into the forest. After a while, they rode past the crashing creek. They rode into the clearing where the witch lived. They rode up to her yard and halted their horses. King Harry dismounted and walked up to the witch’s hut. He knocked on the hut door.
"What do you want?" said the witch.
"I’m here to see that you undo the spell you put on my daughter," answered King Harry.
"Can’t undo it, but she can, by finding someone who loves her. Goodbye!" said the witch, closing the door. King Harry remounted his horse, then turned around and started home. When they got home, King Harry spilled the news to his family.
"And she’s not even old enough to marry," said the queen, disgusted, once she’s heard. Dorothy just cried.
Eight sad years passed. Soon Dorothy would be turning eighteen. On the day of her eighteenth birthday, Dorothy was walking in the forest (being very careful not to go into the clearing where the witch lived). As she was walking along, she came across an ugly prince.
"Oh, I’m very sorry," said Dorothy.
"That’s okay," said the prince. "What’s your name? My name is Henry."
"My name is Dorothy," said Dorothy.
"You know, you’re beautiful," said Henry.
"Well, you’re handsome," said Dorothy.
"Will you marry me?" asked Henry.
"Sure, if my parents say yes," answered Dorothy. "Come on, let’s go to my castle." So Henry followed Dorothy to her castle. When they came to the King’s and Queen’s chambers, Dorothy said, "May I marry this prince?"
"Sure," was both parents’ responses.
On the wedding day, when Henry and Dorothy both said, "I do," there was suddenly a gust of wind. When it had gone, in the place of an ugly princess there was a beautiful princess. In the place of an ugly prince, there was a handsome prince.
Dorothy and Henry lived happily ever after.

The leprechaun brought AJ into the cave. Right before the leprechaun was about to pluck the first feather from AJ the gryphon, AJ’s friend the dragon burst in!

She replied, "The beast wants to be prince."
"Where does he live?" asked the prince.
"He lives in a dark cave," she said.
While the prince was walking to the door, the fortune teller called out, "Prince, wait! The beast also said that he would eat the orphan if you don’t make him prince!"
"OK," replied the prince and he ran off. Soon he was at the cave and saw the beast talking to the orphan.
The prince said, "Hey, you, uh…. I’m the prince and I have a deal for you."
Then slowly, the beast came toward him and said, "What’s the deal?"
The prince replied, "I’ll give you $10,000. You give me the orphan and let me stay as the prince."
The beast said, "Hmm…If I had $10,000 on Beast Island, what could I have? I can be prince on Beast Island! It’s a deal!"

Ogre to the Rescue!
by Jin Jeon
Once upon a time, there lived an ogre and a talking donkey. They were friends. There lived a cruel wizard a few miles away. He was making an evil potion to make himself stronger so he could take over the world.
When he was making this potion, the guide book said, "Step 100, put in a pair of gryphon’s wings." So, he thought about it, but he knew that he didn’t have any gryphon wings.
So, he went out to find a gryphon. He found one in the deep forest. This gryphon was a friend of the ogre. The wizard tried to catch the gryphon with a cage. But he was too fast for the cage. So, he tried the biggest net ever. He finally caught him. Then, he put the gryphon in the dungeon.
A few days later, the ogre and the talking donkey were wondering why the gryphon was not coming to play. So, they went to his house. He wasn’t there, but there was a note that said, "I took the gryphon to the castle. From the wizard."
The ogre got angry. The ogre and the donkey went to the castle. They went downstairs to the dungeon, but the guards stopped them. Then guards took them to the wizard.
The cruel wizard tied them up and said, "You’ll be like this, until I’m finished cutting the wings off the gryphon," he said.
But the ogre was strong, so he broke the ropes and he ran away taking the donkey with him. He ran as fast as he could until he saw some armor. He tried the armor on, and it fit perfectly.
So, he pretended he was one of the wizard’s guards. He told the wizard he was going to the dungeon. So the wizard gave him the key to the dungeon.
He started to look for his friend the gryphon and he heard him groaning. Then he saw him, skinny as a stick because he hadn’t eaten anything.

The Legendary Friends
by Christian Morken
Long, long ago, there lived seven friends. A gryphon, a dragon, a Fire Lord, a unicorn, a sea serpent, a wizard and a fairy.
The sea serpent lived on an island. The unicorn and fairy lived in a forest. The Fire Lord lived in a tower. The dragon lived in a cave. The gryphon lived in a den and the wizard lived in a castle.
The gryphon’s feathers were totally gold except his beak. The unicorn was white with a gold tale and a gold mane. The wizard had a blue hat, a blue cloak, and a grey beard. The fairy had a pink flower dress. She had long black hair and she had dark gold wings. The dragon was red with blue wings, yellow eyes and a silver tail. The sea serpent was yellow with blue stripes and blue eyes. The Fire Lord had a red robe and he looked like a giant Chinese Emperor.
The friends had a problem. Someone asked the dragon and the sea serpent to have a challenge. Each one thought he wouldn’t win. The unicorn and fairy were both trapped on a tree. The fairy was caught in a bag and the unicorn was trapped in a net.
For some reason, the wizard had become very young, while all the other wizards were older. He was very unhappy. The Fire Lord had become very old with white hair. The gryphon had fallen into a hole and his wings got caught.
The wizard knew he still had his materials and his wizard attitude. He made a spell to change all of these strange things that were happening. The spell took 1 week before everything was back to normal again.
And so, all the friends were happy again.

The Virus
by Nicholas Peterson
One day, I was playing computer and the screen started to get all red. Suddenly, a black and red blob jumped out. The blob formed into a cloak with a hood, but black was in the place of his face. The blob had bone hands and it was holding an axe that had a skull shape on it.
Soon, I realized that the creature was a Grim Reaper. It took its hood off and its head was a skull. It went through me into the computer. I thought my head would smash on the glass, but I went right through it.
Now it was playing against me in the game I play. I didn’t stand a chance. I woke up after that. But I never played that computer game again.
