Death Scratching at Your Coffin
by Heather Devaney

One summer day, a bride and groom were being wed at a chapel. After the wedding, the couple walked to their car to meet their guests at their new home. The party was grand. There were cakes, presents and much, much more. Near the end of the party, they played the game of hide and seek. Just before they hid, the groom said sternly to the bride, "Darling, please do not go into the attic."

But she still went into the attic. When she got there, she saw millions of boxes piled high on top of one another. The boxes were all different shapes and sizes but only one box fit her. It was a long skinny one, and just perfect. She lay down slowly. She did not close the lid for fear it might close and lock on her. Once it fell, but she caught it just in time. Then it fell again but this time she wasn't so lucky. It closed with a slam and she called for help, but no one heard her. While she was pounding on the lid, the people downstairs were having a great time playing. Everyone was caught except the groom and the bride. Just then, someone found the groom in the middle of a pile of presents brought from the guests.

Then they all searched for the bride. When hey could not find her, they called for her, yelling, "The bride won!" and they threw confetti all over the place. When they did not get an answer, they were all afraid. They started to search frantically. When they could not find her, they had a funeral right then and there.

One million years from that tragic day, the McFarley's moved in. They stayed one night, then a sound broke the silence. It sounded like someone scratching on hardwood. Then the youngest McFarley came running to her mother. The little girl frantically asked Mrs. McFarley what the noise was. She just said, "It was probably the trees crashing on the house."

Mr. and Mrs. McFarley, went exploring one day and found the corridor that led to the doorway into the attic. Just as they reached for the door, the sound started again. This time it was louder and they found out it was coming from the attic. Mr. McFarley opened the door, and found it led to the staircase. They both climbed up the stairs and when they got to the top, they saw a whole bunch of boxes. Then all of a sudden a box lid opened. The box was big enough to fit a person. They went over to it. Mrs. McFarley SCREAMED! The scratching on the box lid was a BRIDE!
