The City of Townsville
by Levko
One day, Godzilla was doing his normal thing of eating
people. A very poor hobo, named Hairy, and his Chihuahua dog, Porky, was
trying to fight evil with his big spoon. Today, the test would be to get
rid of the one who looks like an overweight gerbil, Godzilla.
Hairy started out by hitting Godzilla with his spoon, but
the harder he hit him, the more it felt like a massage to the monster.
When Hairy got tired, he went to an acupuncturist to get more power. As
well, he took what money he did have and bought a power fork that he saw
advertised on the Power Rangers. When Hairy went up to Godzilla this time,
Godzilla was a goner. Hairy was given the key to the city.
Hairy's children, named Buttercup, Blossom and Bubbles had
super powers as well, and to this day, the Power Puff girls fight evil and
protect the city of Townsville.
Night of Fright
by Lauren Greaves
The night slowly blurred into an ocean of black. Thick fog
curled around the dimly lit streets as the full moon rose and abruptly
disappeared behind a cluster of clouds.
On that very night, a old taxi driver, by the name of
Steve, was driving through an old abandoned neighborhood, known as 94th
Street. Fortunately for him, there wasn't another car on that road. Why?
It was said that if you drove down 94th St. on the night of a full moon,
you would be surrounded by a thick cloud of fog and disappear into an
unknown land, never able to return.
Steve did not believe this folk lore. He'd been down 94th
St. a million times, but never on a night with a full moon. What
difference could that make?
As he was slowly driving along the crumbling road, he
noticed the silhouette of a young boy in the dim light. Rolling down his
car window, he asked, "Would you like a ride home?"
The boy slowly turned his frost-bitten face and nodded. He
cautiously stepped in and sat down on the cold black leather seats.
"My house is just a few blocks past the corner," he quietly
explained.
As they drove up to the broken-down stop lights, a dense
cloud of fog enveloped the car. Steve tried to keep going, but it was no
use. The engine had died. Then suddenly, Steve's world went pitch black.
Steve awoke to the sound of a wolf howling. He noticed the
fog drifting away from the car. He gasped in terror, "Where am
I?"
He glanced around the darkened streets and thought,
"What if I never get back?" He was beginning to believe the
story he had heard, but that didn't matter now, for he he would never get
back.
Suddenly, two cold and clammy hands grasped his bony
shoulders and lightly shook him. "Mister, Mister," someone
whispered.
He opened his eyes. He was lightly shaken again,
"Mister, Mister," the same soft voice chanted.
"What?" replied the old man.
"The light's green. You can go now," answered
the boy. As Steve drove along, he thought, "It must have been only a
dream."
Later when he returned to the station, he changed his
schedule to make sure he would never drive down 94th St. again - well, at
least on a full moon.
The Haunted House
by Laurel Thiessen
"Mom," Cindy yelled, "I'm finished packing
my bags." Her room was as bare as a robbed bank. Cindy was 10 years
old and she was just moving to the first house in New York. But it was not
her first house. She had been to about 20 other houses in the last few
years because all her other houses were haunted. She would hope that she
would finally get to sleep without anyone or anything bothering her.
One of the houses Cindy had was not that haunted. But when
they moved their stuff in, there were noises in the night. It scared her
much that they next day they moved. She thought that she was bad luck
because her mom and dad never had bad luck until she came along. Her mom
and dad always told her that she was not bad luck.
Cindy put her bags into the moving van and got in the car.
Their new house was big. It had two floors and an attic. The parents got
the biggest room on the first floor and Cindy got a room on the second
floor. Her room was white, but her parents' room was colorful. Every other
room was colorful except for hers. Her room was awfully small, but she
chose this room because she was bad luck.
The first moth was okay. Then all the milk went bad before
it was supposed to, their dishes broke, their TV broke, and the computer
broke. Her dad got fired and so did her mom. Then she could not go to
school because she did not have enough money. She lost all of her toys in
her room. It was like she ws just about to move. Everything was gone.
She slept on the floor with no blankets. And then, just
like everything else, it was gone. The color even faded away. Everything
was white in their house so they tried to make enough money to buy a new
house. But it was no use. They made no money at all.
One night when they were just about to go to sleep, there
was a rumble in the house. The house started to move up in the air and a
ghost appeared in the house and said, "If you please play with me, I
will give all of your stuff back and I will put your house back down on
the ground. If you don't play with me, you'll be stuck up here
forever."
So from then on, they decided to play with Little Ghost.
They got everything back. Now Cindy knows she is not bad luck. And Little
Ghost was so nice that he even said, "Thanks!"
The Grave
by Laura Estey
"Eric, Eric are you listening to me?" asked Mrs
Abble. That was Eric’s grade 5 teacher. It was a chilly October afternoon, actually Halloween day! There was a light wind, but there was nothing blowing in the air, it was all on the
ground. You could hardly see the sidewalk for it was covered in orange and red leaves of all sizes.
"OK, boys and girls, I’m going to tell you the legend of the mad Dr. Ripley. He died many years
ago. He died in this very town, actually October 31st, 1899. The legend is that every Halloween he awakens from his grave and haunts the people in this town. I am not trying to scare you or anything, I am just telling you to stay away from the cemetery tonight," assured Mrs.
Abble.
I wish she didn’t say that thought Eric as he peered over to Bradley, Butch and Branden. They were not the best boys to get along with.
Ding Ding, the bell rang for home; Eric was really close to the school so he walked home. "Oh, I am so excited tonight I get to go trick or treating," sang Eric out loud as he was skipping down the sidewalk!
"Not so fast," hollered Butch.
"Oh no, not them," thought Eric.
"Well then," said Bradley "You know that legend that Mrs. Abble told
us?" asked Bradley. "Well, Bradley, Butch and I thought that you were very brave so we dare you to go to the cemetery tonight and tap on the grave of Dr. Ripley, so will you dare?" asked
Branden.
"Of course I will, I’m not scared one bit!" said Eric standing proud and tall.
"Okay, meet us at the cemetery tonight at 12:00," instructed Butch.
"Sure, I'll be there!" exclaimed Eric.
That night Eric went to the graveyard at 10 minutes to 12:00 so he wouldn’t be late. But when he got there Bradley, Butch and Branden were already waiting. I guess they probably thought that I was going to be early and run off trick or treating thought Eric.
"Hello Eric," said Branden with a nervous look on his face. "Eric
are you ready? Dr. Rip’s grave is right over there," said Bradley with a grin. Eric walked over, he was right in front of the grave.
"Ok, here it goes", said Eric as a shiver ran down his back. Tap tap tap went the sound on the grave. Eric turned around but the boys had ran away. "They were probably too scared to stay,"
said Eric. Eric turned back around but nothing was coming out of the grave, he tapped it again but then he got water dumped on his head.
"Eric what are you doing, you are hitting me," yelled his mother.
"Hey, what happened? Why am I all wet?" yelled Eric.
"Eric, its only 2:30 a.m., relax it was only a dream," assured his mother.
"Thank goodness!"
The Ocean Trip
by Lorena Milne
Out in the
middle of the ocean there was a ship with a man and a woman. Amy and John were
both scuba divers. John's grandpa told him there was a gold house that sank
under the water with his grandma in it. John was very surprised that his grandma
was in the house when it sank. That is why John was out in the ocean.
He dove into the
water with his air tank and grabbed a rock to help him sink down lower in the
water. Down below, John saw nice tropical fish and seaweed. It was a very
beautiful ocean, so he kept swimming. There in the mist, he saw some gold
leading to something. He thought he was very close to the gold house. He decided
to keep following the gold.
When he was part way
there, John saw a snake with a body the size of a full grown spruce tree with
eyes the size of a full bathroom. John was very scared, so he decided to risk
his life and he grabbed a stick. He hit the snake as hard as he could and the
snake went away and never came back.
When John turned
around there in the dirty water, he saw the gold house. It was huge. It was
really nice, so he opened the door and looked around. There in front of his eyes
was his grandma. He was so surprised to see her in this watery tomb. He left her
alone.
He was getting
hungry, so he went downstairs and looked in the fridge. There was a piece of
cheese cake. He was so hungry that he took the piece of cake out, but he
remembered that he had a mask on, so he could not eat it. His air tank was
running out of air.
He would not make it
to the top. He tried his best, but all of a sudden, he ran out of air and could
not breathe. He was starting to die. Amy saw some bubbles coming out of the
water, so she dove in. But by the time she reached John, he had died. She still
brought him up to the surface. She remembered that he had wanted to be burned
and his ashes sent down the river. So that is what she did. 9 years later, and 2
months, he was in heaven with his grandma and grandpa.
The
Haunted Mansion
by
Lauren
Once upon
a time there was a mansion that people went to on Halloween.
It was the night before Halloween and everyone was going to go to
the mansion to see the spooky show that only happens once a year.
After the
show they would look at the spooky stuff that they used for display.
That night on Halloween there was a problem at the mansion.
Fake spiders and vampires came alive!
All at
once, the children ran for their lives except for one.
This was a girl named Katie. She
is nine years old and she was dressed up as a princess.
Katie tried to get out, but she could not move another muscle.
The mummies, fake spiders and vampires tried to get her, but she
got out the doors in time. Then
she ran home. Just in time
for dinner, too.
Witch
Samantha
by Laura Saretsky
Witch
Samantha lived alone in her big castle in Cackle City, the capital of
Witch country.
One day
she and her best friend Witch Wendy was at work sewing clothes for their
boss’s store.
“Boss
Rech is going to fire me if I don’t get this honeymoon suit done by
today,” said Wendy.
“Yah!”
agreed Samantha, “Pass the golden thread please.”
Just as
Samantha had said the word “please” their boss had come in the door.
“Witch
Samantha!” he cried, “I will not tolerate manners! I’d like you to
not show for a week! Out, out, out!”
Samantha
picked up her briefcase and hurried out the door.
On her way
home she stopped at her doctor’s office to see what was wrong with her.
When she
finally got to see the doctor, he said that she hadn’t been scared for a
while so something had happened and she started using manners. He gave
Samantha prescription for medicine. He said that when she drank a sip of
it, it would feel like a warm hand was patting her shoulder. She thanked
him and flew to Band's Pharmacy to get her medicine.
When she
got home, she had lunch. Then she took the medicine. The doctor was right.
It felt like a warm hand was patting her shoulder. Samantha’s hair stood
on end.
When it
was a day before a week was over, Samantha was having tea at Wendy’s
castle. When she wanted more tea she said, “Give me more tea.” Wendy
smiled.
The next
day, Samantha walked into work with briefcase in hand. Whenever she wanted
something she said give "give me" instead of "please."
Halloween
Town
By
Liam Salmon
On
Halloween night many years ago I was getting ready for trick or treating.
My name is Liam and I want to tell you about the frightful night I
had 49 years ago.
“Mom
is my costume ready yet?” I asked.
Mom
said, “Yes, dear”.
So
I went up the stairs and there on my bed was a monster costume.
The costume looked like a half lion / half human.
So I put the costume on and as soon as I did, the costume got
tighter until it felt like it was part of my skin!
Suddenly everything went black.
Then I started to see a dim outline of a castle and suddenly I was
seeing dim outlines of some mysterious….
Creatures?
I
rubbed my eyes but they were still there!
There were witches, goblins, ghosts and dancing around me were
scary creatures that I have never seen before!
One of the creatures was holding a mirror so I looked in it and
there was a “Werelion”.
“Is
that me?” I asked in a
growling tone.
“That’s
you,” the creature replied in an eerie growling tone.
I
started to run away but one witch of the witches grabbed me.
I struggled to get loose from her grip but it was no use.
“Here,”
she said in a crackling voice as she shoved some weird green slime down my
throat. Suddenly everything
went black. The next thing I
knew I was in a room full of tubes filled with different colored liquid.
There were wired tubes that were linked to my chest.
A guy in a long white lab coat appeared.
He put a white cloth over my face.
Then everything went white and I was standing in front of a hot dog
stand. I stumbled towards the stand and ate a hot dog then I went
back to normal… At least that is what I thought.
Now every full moon I turn into a werelion.
