The
Skeleton
by Robert Hackman
Once upon a
time, there lived a skeleton who was immortal. You couldn't really get rid
of him, it was impossible. The skeleton was attacking a town.
The king of the
town hired some peasants to go kill him. Well, of course, the skeleton
couldn't be killed. Then the king sent some of his knights, but that
didn't go over too well. Anything that the king tried did not work. It was
like fighting a losing battle. But the king continued trying even though
everyone got mad at him. He raised taxes to buy more men. Slowly, slowly,
the king's treasury room diminished so that all he had left were 2 rupees.
He had no money. The peasants almost had more money than he did.
This was very
bad because the skeleton was raising more people from the dead than usual
and making battle plans to attack the the town. Who could defeat this
fiend? The king was waiting for a long time, for days, weeks, months, and
years. The town waited to be destroyed over the long years. The people
were becoming colder, hungrier, thirstier, and more worried. But that
didn't stop the king. He just kept raising the taxes and just kept
buying men and having them all perish in battle. Time was running out and
there was nothing the king could do about it. He knew it, but still that
wasn't stopping him. He wouldn't stop sending men. He would do whatever it
took to get rid of that skeleton.
He sent his
messenger to go to other cities, towns, and even other countries, but it
was snowing and he left tracks. The skeleton followed him to the next
town. It was horrible. I don't know how I lived to tell you this story,
but if you're wondering how the skeleton was stopped, read on.
People heard
rumors about a strange knight in the forest. They would call to him, but
he would just trudge along. People began to bring back the stories of
legendary knights called paladins. They were to be holy knights with the
strength of ten men who had healing powers. He was to be invincible
nothing could stop him, not even something immortal. People were wondering
if the knight in the forest could be a paladin.
One night the
unidentified knight came into the town came to the king and said, "I
can kill the skeleton." He revealed his face and he was just a
peasant.
The king
laughed and said, "If you can slay the skeleton, you can marry my
daughter and be prince."
So the knight
walked out into the forest. Suddenly several skeletons jumped out at him.
He looked around and saw a tree just staying up by a twig. He took his
sword and slashed the twig, and whoosh! the tree fell right on the
skeletons. The knight got wounded. He started to murmur something and his
wound healed itself. He went on to find many more skeletons. First, he
chopped one on its backbone. Rattle, rattle, the bones fell to the ground.
He noticed the corpse of one of the king's knights. It had a bow and
quiver full of arrows. He put on the quiver of arrows and the bow.
"Patung,
patung, patung," went the arrows, hitting all the skeletons dead in
the nose. "Rattle, rattle, rattle," the bones fell to the
ground. He walked further in slowly. He heard, "Crunch, crunch,
crunch." He stopped moving, "Crunch, crunch, crunch." He
looked around. Nothing. Then suddenly, "Poof!" The skeleton
appeared, then "Poof!" he and the skeleton disappeared and then
reappeared in a new spot. It looked like a graveyard. The skeleton
picked up a sword and slashed the bow and quiver of arrows in two.
The knight
picked up a sword, "Clang!" The two swords clashed together. The
knight had been hit. He started murmuring something again and his skin
became impenetrable, almost as if it were made of stone. The skeleton
started murmuring something and "Fwoosh," a bunch of skeletons
raised from their graves. The skeletons bones fell to the ground once
again. Once again the skeleton started murmuring something and "Fwoosh."
The knight hit him right in the head and he fell to the ground.
He brought the
skull of the skeleton to the king. "Well, I guess you did defeat the
skeleton, but I must ask how?" said the king. "It must have been
quite awful."
"It was
easy. You just had to get a direct hit on the skull," said the
knight.
"Really.
But how did you survive, I mean," the king replied.
"I really
don't know that myself, but I must go now," said the knight.
"But what
about my daughter?" said the king.
"She'll be
fine," said the knight and walked away.
"Farewell,
noble knight," said the king and the knight disappeared.
Kate
and the Mud Monster
By
Richard Funk
One bright
summer day is Citiesville a girl that liked to be called Kate (short for
Kaitlin) went for a nice relaxing walk down around the swamp area.
Kate was thirteen. She soon got to the swamp area.
Around the swamp she went.
The wind
began to blow. She closed her
eyes to enjoy the nice breeze. When
she opened her eyes, she didn’t find herself near the swamp.
In fact she found herself on an island near an ocean.
Kate looked around. Kate
saw that there was a tropical forest behind her.
She went and explored the forest.
She found some fruit lying on the ground and decided to eat them
near the stream.
Kate
munched on the oranges and apples and was starting on the pear when she
noticed a big giant Mud Monster grow from the banks of the river.
Kate got up and ran. It
was a good thing she won a prize in sprinting.
Unfortunately, she got tired.
Kate got so tired she thought her legs were going to fall off.
All of a
sudden, she thought of something. She
kept running until she got to sunlight.
Kate ran around in the sunlight.
When she stopped, Kate noticed that the mud monster had turned into
a hard lump of dried mud. Her
plan had worked! Then she
dropped down on the ground because she was very tired from all that
running. The wind began to
blow. When she woke, she
found herself lying in her bed, covered in mud.
A
Dragon for a Pet
by
Rosita Chan
Once
upon a time in the woods in a cave lived a dog. One day the dog said, “I
don’t have any eggs! I am going to find one!”
He
did find an egg. When he opened the egg there was a dragon in it.
“I
am not going to eat that cute dragon! I will keep it as a pet.”
The
dog took very good care of the dragon until the dragon was big.
The
CBC bears on the television announced that a monster was on earth.
“Come
on! Dragon,” said the dog, “We are going to save the woods!”
The
dog asked the dragon to kill the monster. The dragon burnt the monster.
“We
did it!” Said the dragon.
The
dragon and the dog saved the woods together. They were awarded a medal of
honour and they lived happily ever after.
Lost
in Space

Once a
girl named Mary was staring out the window at the stars thinking about
becoming a great astronaut like her father. It had been about 15 minutes when
her mother told her it was time for bed.
Mary had
already brushed her teeth, so she climbed into bed and had a peaceful
dream about becoming a world famous astronaut and being the first to
travel to Mars, the big red planet. Here was the count down 5,4,3,2,1,0,
blast off! In about half an hour the spaceship had landed on Mars.
Mary’s job was to see if there was life on Mars so she brought some Mars
Bars for bait.
In about
an hour or so of waiting, Mary was about to give up when an alien popped
out and started nibbling on a Mars Bars. The alien nibbled on the
chocolate bar until the Mars Bars was gone, then began searching for
another one. Mary tossed another Mars Bars to the alien until the alien
had about 5 Mars Bars and started crawling to the west end of the planet.
Mary decided to follow it to find out if the alien was a real alien or
another astronaut travelling to Mars, the big red planet. The thing was
heading towards a huge hill and over that hill was a city, a city that
instead of cars it had other spaceships flying around the outside.
Mary
decided to go back home and tell the news to the government that there was
life on Mars. On her way Mary was very careful not to leave any footprints
on the soft ground. While she was walking she thought of getting a gold
medal with the words “Kid Proves Life on Mars!”
While she
was daydreaming she didn’t know that an army of aliens was following her
and the head alien tapped her on the shoulder. As soon as Mary felt it she
turned around and she was so scared she lost a shoe and woke up and found
that she was not on Mars, she was in her own bed. She was so tired that
she fell asleep and didn’t notice a strange figure with her shoe in the
window.

Frankenstein

Once
upon a time there was a girl named Lauren.
Lauren was walking down the street when she saw her friend Megan.
Megan was inviting people to come over to her house on Halloween
night to go trick or treating with her.
Megan handed her an invitation and said that she hoped she could
come.
When
Saturday came she walked over to Megan’s house and met Megan at the
door. Megan told her that she
was the only person that came because everyone else was busy.
Megan and Lauren had fun going trick or treating by themselves and
getting lots of candy. It was
getting dark and they started to walk home when they saw a person in a
really good Frankenstein costume. They
went up to him and said that they thought that his costume was really
good. Then he started
groaning and they found out that he really was a Frankenstein.
Lauren screamed and because Megan knew karate she kicked his head
off with one kick. Then they
both ran into Megan’s house. They
ran up the stairs into Megan’s room and slammed the door shut.
They sat on the bed to get their breath back, but Frankenstein had
got his head back on and was trying to get in the window.
Megan and Lauren both screamed very loud.
Suddenly Frankenstein lost his balance fell from the window and
died.
