The Town of the Pixies
by Sarah Spotowski
Once upon a time, long ago,
there was a town called Tinton. In it lived many happy people, some sad people
and pixies. No one knew about the pixies though. They were called the Quesareosa.
Queareosa pixies were VERY good at hiding. Also, the Queareosa were the most
magical pixies in the pixie world. The town of Suiio, after the Suicen people
who lived there before, is where the Queareosa people live. The queen of Suiio
is Queen Pandora, who is half Suicen, half Queareosa. Now the most famous
troublemakers in the town are Alvi and Krina, also the youngest pixies. Alvi has
an older brother Talfi who is an elf because he is adopted. Krina has a huge
family. All her siblings are pixies too. Her favorite sibling is Gashi, her
oldest sister. Gashi is in love with Talfi. They hope to get married soon.
Now sit down, and get prepared
for a great story.
"Krina, hurry up!"
exclaimed Alvi as they zoomed throughout the air.
"Slow down, Alvi,"
panted Krina. Alvi is top flyer in her age category at school, Krina is
37th.
"Fine," said Alvi, a
little annoyed that her friend is so slow. Soon enough, Alvi and Krina were at
their favorite spot in the whole world, the old Kushman bell tower. They weren't
allowed to go there but no one knew they did. No humans eve went into it because
they thought it was haunted. But of course, it wasn't, or else they wouldn't go
there because Krina was afraid of spirits.
"My mom said I couldn't stay long, after all I do have
flower painting lessons," said Krina suddenly.
"Well then, let's just do our Pixie work," said
Alvi. "I learned something about humans today, said Alvi,
"They call pixie work homework."
"Homework?" said
Krina, "That's weird." Soon enough, they were done their pixie work so
they started to go home.
"See ya tomorrow,"
said Alvi.
"Right back at ya,"
yelled Krina after her. Alvi loved the cold breeze against her cheek. Fall was
her favorite season, it meant she got to paint the leaves. Sometimes she and
Krina purposely mixed up the paints for different colors like purple and pink.
It was fun to see the humans get confused. When Alvi got home, no one was
there.
"Oh, well," thought
Alvi, "I'll just play with Chester." Chester was her mini dragon. He
was blue, had wings and was ust as small as a pixie baby. Alvi loved him with
all her heart. After being home alone for awhile, Alvi got worried and called
her mom on her blab-a-word (cell phone or telephone). "Hi, Mom!" said
Alvi.
"Hi, sweetie! Didn't you
get my note?" said her mom.
Suddenly Alvi saw the note. "Sorry, Mom," said Alvi,
"Bye!"
Then she hung up the
blab-a-word and went over to the note on the table. It said, "Dear sweetie,
I have gone to the store for a few minutes. Talfi should be home at 6:00 p.m.
Love, Mom. P.S. Don't forget your pixie work."
"It's just like Mom to
remember my pixie work," thought Alvi. Soon enough, Talvi was home.
"Where were you?" demanded Alvi.
"I was just at Gashi's,"
said Talfi. Then he pulled her over from where she was standing and gave her a
bear hug."
"Can't breathe,"
gasped Alvi as she pulled away from her brother's strong grasp. "Oh, ya,
Mom told me to tell you to do your pixie work," said Talfi.
A few weeks later, Alvi was
coming home when she saw a note on a tree by Suiio. She went up to it. It had a
lot of words she didn't understand but she managed to make out the message. The
message was that they were going to tear down the valley where Suiio lived.
"Oh, no," thought Alvi, "this is terrible."
As soon as she got home, she
told her Mom and Dad the terrible news. "Mayor Mitch can't do this,"
exclaimed her Mom.
"What can we do?"
asked her Dad.
"I don't know," said
Talfi who was eavesdropping. "Well, we better do something fast," said
Alvi.
The next day, while walking to
school, Alvi told Krina the bad news and they decided to tell Belinda, an old,
old gypsy who lived by the bell tower. She was the only human who knew about the
Queareosa pixies and where they live. They raced over to Belinda's house,
calling, "Belinda, Belinda, please come to the door."
"What is it my
children?" questioned Belinda.
"They're going to tear
down Suiio," blurted out Alvi. In ten seconds flat, Belinda was dressed and
she raced down to Suiio. As soon as Belinda had told Queen Pandora the bad news,
the queen fainted. When she woke up the queen yelled, "They must be
stopped!"
A few days later, Krina and
Alvi were at the bell tower when they got an idea. They would have to use magic
to bind Mayor Mitch up. They quickly flew over to what the humans called a town
all. They found the mayor sitting at his desk. When they heard the secretary
come in to get some papers signed, the two pixies hid behind the garbage
can.
"What was that?"
asked the secretary.
"Probably just my plant
rustling from the wind of my fan," said the mayor. When the secretary left,
the pixies came out and immediately bound the mayor to his chair with
magic.
"Now tell us you won't
tear down our town or we will put you under our spell!" barked Alvi.
"Okay, okay, you can have your
little town. I won't tear it down, I promise!" cried out the mayor.
"Promise that you won't tell
anyone we came here?" asked Krina.
"Yes," shouted the mayor.
So they undid the binding and put a spell on him so that he would forget that he
had seen them and that he would not tear down Suiio.
If you would have gone to Suii the
next day, you would have seen a big parade going down main street. In the
biggest float, you would see two very happy little pixies, named Alvi and Krina
still the biggest trouble makers in the city of Suiio.
The Night Before Halloween
by Sydney Shewchuk
It was the night before Halloween and all
the lights were out. The only moon that you could see was the light of the moon.
The moon was shining directly on the spooky and scary haunted house. An ugly,
wicked witch lived in that haunted house and she could make a spell that would
turn a little girl into a green-eyed bat.
On Halloween night, the little girl came
to the witch's door and asked for some candy. Instead, the witch put a spell on
the little girl and "Poof!," she turned into a green-eyed bat. The
girl screamed and flew into the deep dark woods never to be heard from again.
The Spooky Halloween Story
by Sarah Ward
There was once an old spooky rundown house
at the end of my block on 1223 Road. It had been abandoned for 100 years.
My name is Frances and I am a witch. I
live in a nice grey house on 1223 Road. Most of th time it is a very happy place
to live. But sometimes, it isn't the place you'd want to live in. On every
Halloween night, I seem to see a flickering light when I go past the abandoned
house.
My mom and dad say that a nice old lady
used to live there. My father said she'd died but that no one bothered to live
in the house. But I don't think she died. I think it is her flickering the
lights on and off on Halloween night. My dad says it is my imagination
playing tricks on me. But I think she's come back to haunt the house.
I have a friend Rebecca who goes to the
same school as me, St. Haunt School. It was Halloween night and my school was
having a Halloween party. Rebecca and I went together so that we could go
trick-or-treating together. (Rebecca lives on 1224 Road.) We had fun playing
games and winning prizes. We both agreed that Halloween is the most fun!
Suddenly a person walked into the party
who I did not recognize. I thought it was my friend Tessa, but it wasn't. I
asked Rebecca if she knew who the skeleton was, but she didn't know. Now we were
both scared. Rebecca went bravely over to talk to the stranger and find out who
she was. "I scared you!" the little person said. It was Rebecca's
little sister playing a trick on us. Soon the party was over, and my parents
picked us up. We got ready for trick-or-treating.
At the first house, we got candy, and the
next, until soon we were at the spooky haunted house. First we said that we
wouldn't ring the doorbell, but then we thought that someone did live there.
Could it be true? We walked up and knocked on the door two times. Frances was
about to knock a third time, when the door slowly opened. Should they go in?
They bravely decided to go in. They shouted, "Is anyone at home?"
No one answered, so they walked in and
down the long hallway. Just as they took a few steps, the door slammed suddenly
behind them. At the end of the hallway were three big dungeon doors. Which one
should they open? They went through the first one into another long hallway and
followed it to the dead end. Suddenly a ghostly figure appeared! Both girls
screamed!
The ghost said, "Hi, I am Jenny the
witch. I moved here a long time ago. Will you be my friends?"
"Sure," said both girls
together. "You mean you just want us to be your friends?"
"Yes, exactly," said Jenny.
"Could you explain about the
flickering lights?"
"It's an old ghost saying that if you
flicker the lights on and off on Halloween night you will attract other ghosts
to be your friends."
The next day, the girls came over with
some of their friends to meet Jenny. In the end, Jenny loved all of Frances'
friends and they lived happily after.
The Haunted Hockey Rink
by Scott Gentile
One day, two boys went to their hockey
practice, but no one was there. The power went out, and the most amazing thing
happened.
All of the hockey legends, who were now ghosts, came out to skate. The boys ran
into a dressing room, but saw another ghost, who invited them to come and play
hockey with them. They decided to join the ghosts and played hockey with them
for one hour and had a blast.
Bobby and Pipen
by Shawn May When I was in grade
nine, there were two brothers named Bobby and Pipen. Bobby was the ordinary one
of the two while Pipen was the one who caused trouble. Pipen used to be normal,
but as he got older, he became more of a daredevil. When
Pipen was 20, he ran away from home. Nobody knows exactly why, but that is
beside the point. His quest was to find Bobby, and Bobby was on the run. They
met at the subway the next day, and Pipen was going to hurt Bobby, but he chose
not. Why? That is the question.
The F-5 Tornado
by Sam Hunt
Chapter 1: The Perfect Day
One day, in the city of Calgary, it was a
nice summer day. It seemed to be a perfect day, so good that Mayor Dave
Bronconnier called it a "perfect day in Calgary." Just after that, the
temperature dropped, but not enough for a tornado. It dropped again, and soon
enough, a black sky covered Calgary.
Chapter 2: The Funnel Cloud
A monstrous funnel cloud, two miles wide,
was just above downtown Calgary. "Let's get out of here!" someone
yelled. Everybody in Calgary seemed to have gathered in downtown to celebrate
the day, but the celebration ended quickly. Everybody was screaming so loud that
some windows broke. The funnel cloud was reaching the ground slowly, but surely.
Chapter 3: Destruction of the Top of the
Tall Buildings
As the funnel cloud kept coming down to
the ground, the top of the tall buildings were being destroyed. They were
falling down everywhere. The point of the Calgary Tower almost pierced some
people. No one died from that, but the worst part was yet to come.
Chapter 4: Aaahh!
The tornado was close to the ground and
was sucking people up. Cars were being thrown into the air and going around and
around, then crashing into the ground. It was not a pretty sight, but it was
there.
Chapter 5: The Tornado
The tornado touched the ground and
continued on its way, destroying everything under it and its path. Buildings
were going down one by one. People were going too, but no cows. You could see
some people flying through the air and landing one kilometre away from where
they were picked up. That wasn't a pretty sight either.
Chapter 6: The Aftermath
After the tornado was over, a huge path of
destruction could be seen. Wherever the tornado had been, only flat land could
be seen. Downtown was completely destroyed, and there were no more skyscrapers.
In all, there were 40 deaths and thousands of injuries. The city started
rebuilding immediately.
Chapter 7: Years Later
Years later there was a smaller F-1
tornado, but the city was ready. No deaths were reported, and only 3 injuries.
Even though the first tornado was over, the people of Calgary would never forget
it. It would also be called the worst tornado in Canadian history. This is a
true story.
The Witness
by Sarah Chom
It was a dark and stormy night and Kate
decided to explore the family's new mansion. In her room, she opened the closet
door, where just a few days ago, she had discovered a trapdoor.
"Tonight might be a fun night to find
out where it goes," Kate thought aloud. She pulled the trapdoor open with a
loud creak. Grabbing a flashlight, Kate walked through the trapdoor. There was a
long winding stairway that went to a really dark cellar that looked as if it
could be a lair. There were potions on shelves, a black cauldron full of what
looked to be witch's brew. There were a lot of spider webs and under the stairs
were full sacks.
"What is this place?" Kate asked
herself. Suddenly, there were loud footsteps on the creaky steps. Kate hid
behind the sacks. Goosebumps sprouted on her arms. Someone came into view and he
was dragging another person by the hair.
"I told you to stay down here. Well,
goodbye," the person yelled. Kate realized it was the butler. He looked as
if he was going to hurt this person. Kate covered her ears and started to
whimper. The man turned toward her and pulled her into the light.
"What are you doing down here?"
he yelled.
"I just wanted to explore,"
stammered Kate.
Suddenly, the door burst open and Kate's
mom and dad came running down the steps with the police. The next few minutes
went by in such a blur. The police handcuffed the butler took him away. The
victim was helped.
Then Kate hugged her parents and they said
they never wanted to lose her again.
Snowman Demon!
by Stephanie Esak
One chilly winter afternoon, Tom and his
friend Russell were down in the basement playing video games. Tom asked Russell
if they could go outside and play. Russell agreed that they could use some fresh
air. As the two boys were getting their coats on, Tom's mother asked if they
would build her a snowman in the backyard. The boys couldn't think of anything
else to do, so they agreed.
Once they got outside, they decided to
make a Snowman Demon with a big fat stomach and a tiny head. His eyes were
painted red like almonds that squinted. His nose was a dark black candle that
was lit. The mouth was a piece of red licorice that smiled a scary smile. His
arms were long twigs with smaller pointed twigs on the ends. When the boys were
done, they were very proud of themselves.
That night, the Snowman Demon came alive.
The first thing it did was eat all the Christmas lights that were on the houses.
Then he went into all the houses in the neighborhood and ate all the Christmas
decorations. For the rest of the evening, the Demon ate all the Christmas stuff
he could find.
At dawn the Demon tried to find a hiding
place, somewhere cold. But it was too late - the sun came out and it was a
record high for the day. The Snowman Demon started to melt and when he was gone,
Puff! all the decorations were back to their rightful places. Everything was
back to normal, except for the missing Snowman Demon, who had melted away.
A Ghost Named Boo
by Stephanie Choi
Once every year, it has been said that a
ghost will haunt all over town for only a day. There was also a girl who did not
believe in ghosts.
That evening, the sky st
arted to turn
black. The people of the town knew that it was time to stay inside of their
homes and lock the doors and shut the windows so that the spirit of the ghost
wouldn't get in.
While the sky got darker, the ghost began
to appear, but the little girl stayed outside playing jump rope. The ghost came
up to her and said, "My name is Boo, what's yours?"
The girl answered back and said, "Do
you want to play jump rope with me?"
The ghost said, "Why aren't you
afraid of me?"
"Because I'm not scared of
anything," the girl replied.
So the ghost played with the girl and they
lived happily ever after. From then on, people in town would not have to close
their doors and shut the windows again.
The Old Farm House
by Simon Luchak
There once was a creepy house in the
middle of an abandoned dusty pumpkin patch. It was the night before Halloween
and it looked like nobody was going to trick-or-treat at that house this year
because it was down a secret path. The only ones who knew about it were my
friends and Jimmy and me.
Do you want to know why I said, "not
this year?" Last Halloween, Jimmy Cliff rang the doorbell to get some candy
at the same house and something or someone reached out and grabbed him! Jimmy
screamed but no one heard him. He got yanked in and was never seen again. Nobody
knows what happened to Jimmy.
That's why children on Halloween night
stay clear of this old farmhouse and the pumpkin patch. If anyone steps in here,
they will get their feet all messy. People believe that somebody lived there,
someone like a farmer. It could be a farmer or maybe something else. On
Halloween night, people say they hear weird sounds coming from that house at
night. It could be a werewolf or some bats, but no one knows for sure.
It was Halloween night, now and I was
trick-or-treating with my friends and we were having a great time. My friend
dared me to ring the doorbell of the dusty farmhouse, (I knew I shouldn't
have.), but I did it anyway. I stepped through the mushy pumpkin patch and
pushed the doorbell. We waited for something or someone to answer. Nothing
happened, so we were starting to leave, then a voice came from the door,
"Come children, come!"
We started to run, but before we could
even think about running, whatever it was, grabbed us. I was so scared, I almost
jumped out of my pants. But there wasn't any time for that now, because
something was attacking me! All I could see were dark shadows and dark hallways
and other spooky things. My friends and I got loose from the creepy thing.
We went down a creepy stairway and saw a
small coffin. My friend opened it up and there was the person we called Jimmy
Gliff, the rotting bones and all. We never knew where to put the coffin, so we carried
it out of the house past the old man and out the door, where else? Where were we
going to put it? We left him at the door for a Halloween joke and we ran home
and ate candy.
Next year, I will not be going in that old
house again!
A Scary Story
by Spencer Lane
One Saturday morning
in Wellingerbger, there were 3 teenagers who were triplets. They like to hang
around on Bourbon Street on 50 Ave. Their names all rhymed - Jason, Mason, and
Bason. But one day, that all changed. Jason was walking home from Bellger Jr.
High, when he saw the man. He wore a black trench coat and tore up cords, with a
hat that covered his face.
Jason looked in shock
and asked the man if he needed some help, but the man did not answer. Jason saw
something that was bolt silver. He fled to the nearest fire hall and told the
head marshal. The marshal was very skeptical and said to Jason, "Stop
messing with my mind, you hooligan, and scram! On with you. No buts. Go
home."
Jason found his
brothers and told them all about his experience with the man. His brothers
believed him, but convincing mom and dad would be hard indeed, so he put his
mind to work. When he got home, he opened the gate and saw that their house had
burned to the ground.
He stopped in his
footsteps, and said, "No!" He ran, with his brothers following shortly
behind him. They ran through the streets until they got to the police station
and told the head chief.
"Well,"
said the head chief, "We'll look into it." The boys ended up living in
an orphanage without any parents.
The Footsteps
by Sadaf Haqqi
One afternoon, when I
was walking down the hall, I heard footsteps behind me. I turned around but
nobody was there. I went to tell my mom what happened, but she didn't believe
me.
"But, Mom, this
really happened," I said.
"No buts, Jamie.
Now get ready to go to your play at school."
Jamie was moaning
down the hall, "Why doesn't anyone believe me?" She went to her
room and got her things.
Her mom was waiting
downstairs, "Let's go, Jamie, or you'll be late."
"I'm
coming," said Jamie and she went downstairs and into the car. She saw
someone sitting with her. When Jamie looked again, it was just one of Jamie's
brother's car. Jamie said, "Huh!," then looked out the window again
and saw her school. Her mom stopped to drop Jamie off. When Jamie was walking,
she heard footsteps again and so she turned around, but no one was there. So
Jamie ran into the school and told her friend Julia what happened to her.
Jessica wanted to hear all about it too, but it was time for rehearsal. Jamie
told Jessica she would call her when she got home.
When the rehearsal
was over, Jamie's mom didn't come to pick her up. Jamie called home, but nobody
answered, so Jamie walked home. She heard footsteps again. She turned around,
but there was nobody there. So Jamie ran home and when she went inside. Her mom
had gone to pick up Paul and her dad just arrived home. So Jamie told her dad
what happened but he didn't believe it.
I went to my room to
call Jessica, who said, "Cool!"
Jamie said,
"That's not cool, it's scary! It seems scary to me." Jamie put the
phone away and went to watch TV with her dad. Her dad told her it was probably
her imagination. Jamie thought she would never find out.
Once Upon a
Haunted New Year's Eve
by Scotty
One New Year's Eve
night, two boys were getting ready to celebrate New Year's Eve. When the power
went out, the two boys were scared out of their pants. The two boys ran to the
kitchen to get some candles, but couldn't find them. They went to the window to
see if all the other houses had power. But none of the other houses had their
power out, so the two boys did not know what to do.
Then the two boys saw
a guy walk into the house. The guy fell and the boys jumped on him. It was not a
bad guy. It was the two boys' best friend.
The best friend said,
"I tripped over a wire. Then the power went out," said the two boys.
Frankenstein’s
Big Scare
by
Stephanie Bohaichuk
“I’m
bored,” I said to myself. I was
bored of scaring people
I
am Frankenstein. All I mostly do is
scare people. I live in a haunted
house. I myself am green with black
hair.
“I
wonder what those bright things that you see at night are.
I want to explore them, whatever they are,” I said.
“I’m going to eat a snack,” I mumbled.
I
went to the haunted kitchen and ate my rabbit stew.
Before
I went to sleep, I said, “I still wish I could explore those bright things.”
In
a blink, I was not in my house, and not in the city. Then I saw a sign that said, “Welcome to Yukatach.”
That’s when I realized I wasn’t on what people called Earth.
Then
I saw weird looking things. They
had 6 eyes, 2 antennae, and they were green.
I wondered if they were also monsters.
I
asked them “What are you?”
“Aliens,
Intruder!” cried the aliens.
Uh
oh I thought. The aliens took out
their nets. They were going to trap
me!
“RRROOAARR!”
I roared. The aliens stopped.
I didn’t care if they were scared or not.
I ran as fast as I could. One
of the aliens noticed me.
“Get
the intruder!” it cried.
Double
uh oh I thought.
Soon
I came to a dead end, which was the end of the planet, and there was no turning
back. I noticed then that there was
a black circle shaped pit.
Those
aliens got closer.
I
thought the pit might take me home, so I jumped into it.
It was actually a black hole.
In
it I couldn’t see anything. I
tried to jump out. That didn’t
work. I tried to walk out.
That also didn’t work. I
then tried to climb. There was
nothing to climb on though.
Finally
I thought “What took me in here?” I
thought about the last words I said before I came here, which was “I still
wish I could explore those bright things”.
Now I wished I had never come here.
“That’s
it!” All I had to do was say “I
wish I could go home.”
I
yelled, “I wish I could go come!” Again
in the blink of an eye I was home.
Now
I knew what it was like to be scared. That whole time I was scared.
I would never scare people again. Maybe
I’d get a job, but definitely not scaring people!
The
Ghoul
by Shauna
Regan
My
friend and I were trying to find a way back to my house.
We were lost. But as we went along through the woods my friend spotted a
cave. The cave was not made of
rock. It was made of moss and
slime! So we decided to check it
out. We thought that it would lead
us to a wild adventure. But we were
wrong. It led us to nothing but
trouble. When we were in the cave
we heard a sound coming from the darkest tunnel.
We ran thinking there was someone who could help us at the other end. Then we ran into the end of the cave. There was no one there to help us. We were terrified. We
turned around only to see something we weren’t expecting.
“Who
are you?” I asked.
“Your
worst nightmare,” the figure replied. He
turned around and what we saw was a ghoul, a very scary ghoul.
He looked as if he were right out of the movie Scream.
You would have been really scared if you saw him.
“This
is my cave, now get out,” the ghoul said.
We
ran and we ran but we could not find a way out.
“Were
are we?” I screamed. We were lost
in a very spooky cave with a very scary ghoul.
My
friend and I were now split up. We
had gone different ways. I was
scared, not because I could not find my friend but because the ghoul was
following me. There was no where to
run. I was at a dead end.
I didn’t know what to do. I
was trapped. Then I heard something on the top of the cave.
I thought it was my friend.
“Break
a hole through the moss and let me out, let me out!” I was screaming at the
top of my lungs.
“Help,
Help, HELP!” I continued to yell. I
was very scared. Then a huge light
shone from above. I was free at
last.
We
were so happy to get away from the evil ghoul.
We never wanted to go back ever again.
So we wondered back to my house. When
we got to my house we decided to tell no one about the ghoul.
It would be our secret.
The
Man in the Basement
by
Shannon Fox
My name is
Lindsay. My mom and dad, my brother
Keegan and I just moved in this summer. We
moved into this creepy looking house with vines wrapped around and tiny cracks
all over that looked like they were going to break into large ones.
This house was old-fashioned with small rooms and doors.
Our super-large television had to be located in the basement.
All of the
family spent the late fall evening in the basement watching television.
“Oh Keegan it’s 7:30. Do you
know what time it is?” Mom
inquired.
“Time for bed,”
mumbled Keegan.
“Let’s go
then,” Dad said as he grasped Keegan’s hand and the three of them trooped up
the stairs.
“Ha, ha, ha.
Oooooh. Yeah, that is funny.” I
laughed out loud in the dark except for the light of the television.
I was watching my favourite TV program when my parents and brother went
upstairs and hardly noticed that they were gone.
When my program
was over, it was time to go upstairs to my own bed.
I turned off the TV. I heard
a faint rattling noise. I walked
over to the stairs. I felt I was
being watched. Soon I could hear
noisy breathing. I thought about
the long dark hallway and how something could just pop out at me.
“Is anyone
there?” I squeaked out.
If I ran up the stairs and made it to the lighted upstairs, I would be
safe. I did not hesitate any
longer. I turned and ran up the
stairs.
“Crunch,
crunch, crunch.” I was munching
on my breakfast the next morning before school.
“Last night when I was coming up to bed, I heard strange noises in the
basement,” I said calmly to my mom and dad.
“Oh, that was
probably just your imagination, Lindsay. Okay,”
reassured my mom.
I wasn’t so
sure about that but your parents are supposed to tell the truth, right?
I was just
starting to believe what Mom said but it happened again.
I had finished typing on the computer when I heard the rattling noise
again. I felt a piercing gaze on the back on my head and the loud
breathing noise was back again. I
couldn’t take it anymore. I
jolted up the stairs before you could say Christmas.
Once I was up the stairs, I was safe.
At breakfast the
next morning, I described my experience to my family but Keegan just laughed at
me.
“No Keegan, I’m serious. I
heard loud breathing and rattling sounds,” I tried to convince him of my
honesty.
“Uh Uh. No way
Jose. It’s just too crazy,”
replied Keegan with disbelief.
He wasn’t the
only one not convinced that there was something in the basement.
I couldn’t believe my ears when my mother asked me to go downstairs to
the pantry. Didn’t she hear what
I just told everyone?
“Oh mom, do I
have to?” I moaned.
“Yes, you do
Lindsay,” said Mom.
My knees felt
wobbly as I stood up to go down the stairs to the dark basement.
I bit my lip to stop the trembling.
The man in the basement would be there. I just knew it.
Down the creepy
stairs I went. Down the dark, black hall.
I ran to the pantry. I
grabbed the salt from the shelf. A
creepy, eerie shadow passed over me. I
turned around and saw nothing, but I flew up the flight of stairs anyway.
I know he is still there. I
can’t see him, but he will always be there behind me to chase me up the
stairs.

The
Demon’s Spell
by
Sean Cunningham
Once
upon a time there lived a really nice man. His name was Brett Cunningham. He had
a wife named Crystal and a daughter named Sabrina.
Sabrina
was 5 and Crystal was 34. Brett always wore a mask to hide his torn up face. He
had been a firefighter for his whole life so that’s why his face was ruined.
Brett got burned a lot. He lived in an old deserted jail called Alcatraz on the
countryside of Halifax. One day Brett drove his newly bought Hummer to the city
paths where he went out for a summer day walk. Every body that walked by him
thought he had gone crazy, because he was wearing a woolen mask.
After
two hours of walking Brett walked up to an abandoned military base. There he met
a demon from Hell. Brett was really surprised to meet a demon there. The demon
told Brett to take off his mask, so he did. He also told Brett that he would
give him the most handsome face in the world if Brett would do two things for
the demon. One request was that he takes an airplane to Edmonton AB. To arrest
Edward Scissorhand because Edward had murdered a young girl. The other one was
to find a lab and make a man-eating Cyclops for the demon to have as a servant.
A
few days later Brett set off on an Air Canada flight to Edmonton. He was nervous
to arrest someone because he was not even a Police Officer. Five hours later the
airplane had landed. It was 5 o’clock in the evening. At that airport Brett
saw a man with scissors for hands. Brett asked if his name was Edward. The man
said his name was Guy but he had a brother named Edward. Brett asked Guy if he
knew where his brother lived. Guy told him that Edwards lived at 14757-46ave.
Brett
saw a sign that read “Rent a car for only $128.94 a week!” He checked his
pockets for some cash. He only found $128.93. Brett went to the store any ways.
Brett found a nice blue Lamborghini with the number 1234 painted on. Brett went
to the cashier and asked for the Lamborghini. She asked for $128.93. He gave her
the money.
“I
think I read the sign wrong,” Brett thought.
“Here’s
your key.”
Brett
took them and left to his car. He started up and drove. Four hours later Brett
found the address 14757-46ave. He stayed the night in his Lamborghini. At 6
o’clock Brett broke into the house and arrested Edward and took him to the
airport and caught a 10:30 flight. At 3:38 the plane landed. Brett took Edward
to the abandoned military base. The demon was waiting. Now Brett had to do the
other task for the demon. Brett set off to look for a closed experimental lab.
About half-an-hour later Brett found one. As soon as he got in he started
working. He found a man just going for a walk, so he snatched him to use. First
he put him to sleep. After he took one of his eyes out and stitched the hole.
Next he pumped him full of venom. All of the tasks were done. Later that day the
demon gave Brett the best-looking face in the world. Brett was really happy and
sad at the same time. He was happy because he had a full face and was sad
because he had done wrong.
The
next day Brett went back to the abandoned military base were he met the demon.
He felt really sad for the man on the street so he found the demon’s servant
and asked to talk to the demon in person, so the Cyclops led Brett to him. Brett
asked the demon if he could get the man that is now a Cyclops turned back into a
human.
The
demon answered, “No, I will not help you get him back to human. I like him
just the way he is. He is a great servant. Watch this! Servant, take him away
and put the deadly spell on him.” The deadly spell was a spell that made Brett
weaker every hour. In 5 hours Brett will die. Three hours later he was so weak
he couldn’t walk. He thought to himself all the wrong he had done. He wished
he had never done what the demon wanted. Two hours later he stopped breathing
and died.
Banrock
the Bad
by Sophie Gatward
Tink,
tink, tink went the tinkering of the tools in Dr. Lazeros’s lab. Everyone
wondered what he was making.
“Oh
he’s just crazy,” said one of the town’s people.
“I
think he’s getting drunk,” said another.
“Well
I think he is making something new and something amazing,” exclaimed Shaun a
boy in the town of Delcan.
Delcan
was a small fishing town, just off the coast of Maine and almost everyone made
their money from fish. Halloween was drawing near and everyone had a pumpkin and
decorations out at their front doors. While Shaun was walking home he couldn’t
help but wonder what Dr. Lazeros was making. “It’s probably just going to be
another one of his stupid robots like the ones he always makes.”
“Awww……..
it is almost finished everyone will soon see that I am not stupid. Of course, I
have made a few mistakes in the past but now there is no mistakes, this robot
will be amazing. Everyone will want one. I think that $80.00 each is a
reasonable price,” muttered Dr. Lazeros. “When everyone in Delcan finds out
that it is a koala kitchen\maid\nanny helper, everyone will be screaming to buy
one. I mean you can never really trust a babysitter with your kids but with this
Banrock Koala you can,” exclaimed Dr. Lazeros half screaming. “I think
that’s enough work for tonight,” said Dr. Lazeros in a calm voice, then he
gulped four large sleeping pills and went to sleep. A few hours ran by.
AAAAAnnnnnnnnnnnggggggggg!!!!!!!!!!!!! Went Dr. Lazeros’s alarm clock.
“Oh
be quit Martha, can’t you see I’m trying to sleep?” yelled Dr. Lazeros
even though there was no one there. “O o o o o time to wake up,” said Dr.
Lazeros while putting on his glasses sounding a little flustered.
Then
he got a cup of coffee and his phone and dialed the number for all the stores in
Delcan and told them about his new invention (Banrock the koala).
He also told them he wanted $80.00 each.
The
man on the other line said rationally, “Dr. Laz almost all of your robots in
the past have been pretty messed up, so we have to see this one first before we
agree.”
“Of
course, you may see it first because you won’t be regretting anything. I’ll
bring it over right away, ok?” exclaimed Dr. Lazeros. Then he hung up the
phone, put Banrock in a bag and walked over to the store Super-Stuff, and walked
in.
The
man that worked there said, “Please follow me to the back where you can see
the manager.”
The
man in the back of the store said,
“Wow……………….nice…………..what does it do?” with a puzzled
look on his face.
“Well
I haven’t turned it on yet.” So Dr. Lazeros did and as soon as he turned
Banrock on he looked up and said, “Hello my name is Banrock the
kitchen\maid\nanny helper. What is your name?”
The
man looked as if he were about to crack up laughing but instead said, “My name
is Dave and I am the manager of Super-Stuff.” As soon as he finished talking
Banrock immediately said, “Really? That is interesting.”
“Is
he the only one that you made? Can he carry on a conversation of any type? Can
he help with homework?” asked Dave.
“I
told you he can do anything when it comes to cooking, cleaning, playing, helping
with something and also real life safety.” As Dr. Lazeros said, Banrock
carried on loads of different types of conversations, but didn’t interrupt
Dave while he was speaking.
“Dr.
Lazeros you still didn’t answer my question. How many did you make?” asked
Dave rather rudely.
“So
sorry Dave, this is the only one I made,” said Dr. Lazeros raising his voice a
little, pointing to Banrock. “But there is one last thing I have to tell you.
He is made especially for the Halloween season. After a couple of minutes of
examining Banrock, Dave decided to sell them at Super-Stuff.
Dr.
Lazeros was so glad, his face turned as read as a tomato. He said, “Great, how
many would you like me to bring over Dave?”
Then
Dave yelled, as Dr. Lazeros was leaving, “About 300 Dr. Laz, thank you so
much!”
“I
will bring them over first thing in the morning. I will also get started as soon
as I get home,” yelled Dr. Lazeros. By about 1:00 in the morning Dr. Lazeros
had talked to all the stores in Delcan and they agreed to sell Banrock koalas at
their stores. He had made about 1000 Banrock koalas. In the morning Dr. Lazeros
rented a truck and delivered all the Banrock koalas to all the stores in Delcan
and yelled, “I want my money for giving you the Banrock koalas!” When he got
the money he ran like a bolt of lightning out of their stores.
When
Banrock first hit the stores people weren’t very excited. Almost everyone
thought that it was going to be another one of the crazy doctor’s stupid
robots that don’t work but they were wrong.
One
day Mrs. Flegar and her daughter Jenny were going shopping 9 weeks after Banrock
came out. As they were leaving they saw Banrock at the exit with a big sign
saying “Banrock Koalas $35.00 each (sale price). It’s a great idea. It’s a
kitchen\maid\nanny helper. They’re going fast. Buy’em now.”
Right
after they saw the sign they stared at each other with a really odd look that
gave the impression, “We have got to buy one, just one.” So they bought one.
When
they got home they opened Banrock up and Shaun yelled from down the stairs,
“Mom I have to go to hockey practice now” and stopped when he saw Banrock
saying, “Hello what is your name?”
My
name is Banrock the kitchen\nanny\maid helper.
“O…………k………..
then,” interrupted Shaun with an odd look on his face.
“O…………k………..
that is interesting name. Where did you get it?”
“Alright
my name isn’t o…..k….. it’s actually Shaun and I’m 11 years old. A
couple of weeks went by and everyone really liked Banrock and before everyone
knew it, it was Halloween day.
Mrs.
Flegar asked Banrock to take the kids trick or treating because her legs were
really sore from a hike she took the day before. Mr. Flegar couldn’t take them
because he fractured a disk in his back and the doctor told him not to move
around for at least couple of weeks. So Banrock said he would take them and they
would be back at 9:45 on the dot.
Then
they set out to get some candy.
Time
flew by very quickly and before anyone new it, it was 9:50 Mr. and Mrs. Flegar
started getting really worried. Then Banrock came running trough the door
crying, “The kids asked me if I knew any magic tricks and I said just one. Do
you want to see it?”
They
said, yes so I waved my fingers and the kids were gone! I thought that they were
trying to play a practical joke on me so I looked around the block for them but
they were nowhere to be seen then I started to cry because I didn’t think that
it would work but it did and I’m so so so sorry!”
When
the Flegars heard the news their eyes were covered with tears. Luckily Dr.
Lazeros was walking by and saw them crying and asked, “What is wrong Mr. and
Mrs. Flegar?”
Then
they told them and he yelled, “WOW, I think I might know a way to bring them
back.”
He
said a few magical words and Jenny and Shaun appeared right there in front of
their eyes, and then Jenny said, “Where am I?” in a puzzled voice and Shaun
yelled, “Mom, Dad I missed you all! I remember is being somewhere really dark
and also being alone it was really scary.”
Then
all of the Flegar family joined together for a big family hug and then Shaun
said Banrock please don’t ever show us any magic tricks again.
“I’m
so so so sorry Jenny and Shaun.” And
now to this day Dr. Lazeros and Banrock come back on Halloween night to find any
kids that have been lost.
The
Dream
by
Sam McCarthy
It
was really dry, dark and warm in the tunnel I was walking in. Wait. I should
start at the beginning. It was a dark Halloween night. The kind with a full moon
and a warm breeze blowing occasionally. There was a faint crunching of leaves
under my feet. I rang the doorbell of house 1314. A round, elderly man answered
the door.
“Trick
or Treat,” I said nervously.
“I
don’t do Halloween,” the man replied gruffly.
“Uh.
Okay then, uh, bye.” As I backed off, the man pushed a button and a trap door
opened behind me. I walked into it. As I fell, I blamed myself for being such an
idiot. When I hit the ground, it felt hot, dry and sandy. It was also very dark.
When I looked up there was a light at the end of the tunnel. When I got to the
other end what I saw took my breath away.
There
was a coal pathway and fire surrounding the path. At the end of the path, was
the devil, sitting in a blood red chair, pitchfork and all. When he spoke the
flames bowed and so did I.
“Ah,
so you have come to my underground home. Do you want to go to your above-ground
home?”
“Yes,”
I replied trembling.
“I
will tell you how to go home if you can pass this test,” he said.
“Is
it Math? It’s my best subject.”
“HA
HA HA,” the devil laughed so loudly that the walls shook.
“Not
that kind of test. It’s a test of bravery.”
“Like
what?”
“Like
this.”
Suddenly
a big red bull appeared. Snorting and pawing the ground furiously. When I was
just about to surrender, I noticed that it was a fake because there was no dust
clouds.
“FAKE!!!”
I screamed at the top of my lungs. “The bull is a fake.”
Everything
fell silent.
“Okay,
okay. You win, I’ll tell you.”
“Good.”
Then
the devil pushed a button and a trap door opened under my feet. As I fell I
congratulated and apologized to myself. Then the fall ended. I was knocked out.
I woke up to my mom calling my name. And that’s my story of my dream.
Jane’s
Zombie
By
Sammi Strilchuk
A
long time ago, there was a family named the “Frighty” family.
There was Jane Frighty, Debbie Frighty, Bob Frighty and Larry Frighty.
One night, the family decided to go on a trip.
Debbie
said, “Zombie Island.”
Jane
said, “Disneyworld.”
Bob
and Larry agreed with Zombie Island. The
next morning, the Frighty’s packed up their old Honda and drove off.
One
hour later, Debbie turned off her walkman and gazed out the window.
The trees were bare and the sky had become dark.
Debbie gulped. Bob drove up
a bumpy driveway and he turned off the car.
Debbie and Jane got out. Jane
looked around.
“This
place is creepy, dad!” Jane said.
Debbie,
however wanted to explore.
“Uh,
Dad, we’re just gonna look around a little, ok?”
“Well,
I guess so, but don’t go too far,” Bob answered.
“We
won’t,” said Debbie.
As
the girls walked off, a hand reached out to Jane’s shoulder.
“Aaahhhhh!!!”
Jane screamed.
“Jane”
Debbie said, “Are you ok?”
“Something’s
got me!” Jane screeched.
Debbie
ran back to Jane and parted the bushes. Then
she came face to face with a zombie! Debbie drew back her hand and slapped the zombie’s head.
It turned sideways. The
zombie reached up, straightened its head and ran off.
“Let’s
get you back to mom and dad, Jane. I
don’t want to see another zombie. Its
skin felt gross!” said Debbie.
“So,
Debbie, how do you get your courage?” Jane
asked.
“Oh
well, it’s freedom,” Debbie answered.
As
soon as they were back safe with their parents, Debbie and Jane explained what
happened.
Bob
said he was proud of Debbie that she protected Jane the way she did.
After that they all got back into the car and drove to Disneyworld, where
there was no zombie’s to worry about, and both Jane and Debbie had a great
time.
