Santa Needs Help
by Tom Sowa
On a warm night before Christmas, James heard a ch, ch,
ch, ch, ch, ch, ch and it was getting louder by the second. So he
jumped out of bed and quickly put on his robe and slippers. He quietly
tiptoed down the stairs and opened the front door. There was a blue
and orange train with a reindeer pulling it. A small man was holding
up a sign that said, "Come on the train. Come on the train."
James got on and many more children were on the train
too. They gave us hot chocolate, donuts, and many more things. We got
to lie down on bunk beds and play Game Cube, PS2, Lego, N64, Game Boy
Advance and Game Boy.
We finally got to Santa's house; it took 4 hours in
all. An announcement went over the speakers and it said, "Please
follow a little blue and green elf to the toy room."
One elf came up to Santa and said, "We only have
2,000,121 toys in all and we need 21,121,000." So the kids got to
work and made some toys. Time quickly flew and when they were
finished, they got to play with one Game Boy toy.
It was now time to go home and they jumped on Santa's
sled because it was 2:00 a.m. and rode home.
"Good bye, Santa," shouted James.
Santa said, "Good bye" to James. Santa
quickly took off to deliver toys all around the world for Christmas.
The next day James rushed down stairs to open
presents. He got Lego, Game Cube, PS2, Harry Potter Jelly Beans, Game
Boy Advanced, goalie Pads, graphite hockey stick and a big screen TV
in his room. James was very lucky.
Family
by Taylor Patterson
A brother, a sister, a mom and a dad,
This is a family that most people have.
To work and to play and to laugh all day
This is a family for which most people pray.
They play sports like soccer,
Running, and such - so much
That my mom and dad like to say,
"Play your best in a way."
Once in a while families fight
But once in awhile, it's quite all right.
This is my poem about families.
Jane’s
Problem
by
Tabitha Lin
Jane
had a big problem when she was young.
She’d always lie. It
all started when Jane was in grade 6.
Jane
was eleven years old and she was really smart, but whenever she was
nervous she would lie. First
she lied to her friends, then her teacher, and soon her parents.
She didn’t like it at all but it just seemed like she
wasn’t controlling herself when she lied.
She felt very ashamed so she decided to keep it a secret.
One
day Jane was walking home with her friends Stephanie and Tabitha.
She was confessing her little secret to them.
Stephanie tried to help Jane by encouraging her to tell the
truth at nervous times. Tabitha
suggested to Jane not to be nervous.
Jane was confused. She
thought her friend’s ideas were great but she didn’t know how to
not be nervous. That same
day Jane went to piano lessons. She
had to lie again. She had
to find a way to stop lying. Jane
was very sad about that. Another
week had passed and Jane was the same.
One
day Jane went on a bus back home.
The bus was very crowded, but Jane managed to get a seat.
When the bus stopped at a bus stop, Jane saw an old lady
looking for a seat. Jane felt sorry for her so she let the old lady have her
seat. The old lady was so
happy that she told Jane she would grant her a wish.
It was almost Jane’s stop and she had to go soon.
Jane quickly said she wanted her wish to be that she always
told the truth unless it was a white lie.
The old lady granted Jane’s wish and in no time Jane was much
happier and didn’t lie at all. It happened so fast that Jane couldn’t remember what had
happened. Jane’s
classmates were very surprised that Jane didn’t lie anymore and Jane
was surprised too! Jane
wished she could thank the person who helped her get over her
problems.
A
month later Jane went on the bus again.
The same thing happened as the last time but this time she
remembered who the person was. It
was the old lady. Jane
thanked her. Jane was so happy. Years
and years had passed and Jane never lied again, but one day when Jane
was in grade 9, her wish seemed to stop.
Jane started to lie again and it was terrible.
Jane needed help. Jane
felt so hopeless she wanted to run away.
Jane packed up her stuff and ran out the door.
Nobody knew where she went.
A
day later Jane’s parents called the police and soon all the people
who knew her were looking for her.
Jane was missing for two days and she still couldn’t be
found.
One
day Jane was walking to a grocery store and a young woman saw her.
Jane tried to run but the young woman already caught up to her. Jane tried to hide but then was caught by the police dog.
The police returned Jane back to her home.
Jane didn’t feel so good facing her parents.
Jane and her parent talked a lot.
They were so surprised when they heard Jane say she ran away
because she was scared of her lying habits. Jane and her parents
talked for three hours until they got it all settled.
Now they knew about Jane’s problem and could help her.
Jane felt good telling the truth.
After their talk they spent some more time together.
They tried to learn more about Jane’s lying habits.
Jane’s dad didn’t like that Jane kept it all a secret but
her finally understood Jane’s problems.
Jane felt much better after they were done talking about the
big topic.
Soon
Jane went to school again and she noticed that she didn’t lie
anymore. Jane felt great,
and even did better in her grades.
Two days later, after her conversation with her parents, Jane
felt she had much more confidence in herself.
In her brain, Jane knew if she needed help she could always get
it from her family. Jane
finally got it! Maybe,
just maybe, the old lady she met on the bus didn’t help her because
she wanted to help her, instead maybe she wanted Jane to get to know
her family more and start to rely on them more.
So from that day on, Jane always relied on her parents whenever
she needed help and she never lied again.

Pet Named Spark

Once
there was a boy and he lived in the city.
At the end of grade four he got a dog for his birthday.
He was very happy that he got a dog.
He called his dog Playful.
They would play outside all summer long.
They played outside all day and would not come in until night.
At nighttime they would sit on the steps. Then they would go to bed.
