Our Teddy Bears' Autobiographyby Miss Tomnuk's Class Each child brought in a teddy bear from home and created a web of information about the bear. They answered questions like: favourite things, how old the bear was, who is in the bear’s family, and other important facts. We then read Voices in the Park written by Anthony Browne. We discussed perspective writing or "voice writing", so we could write our bear’s autobiography. To prepare children for the writing, they took a few minutes to talk to their neighbor as their bear, answering questions about what they like to do when their owner is at school, what they do at night, and other questions to assist children in deciding what they would write about. Here are their stories.
Patrick’s bear Hello my name is Mr. Beaver. I like to watch T.V. My favourite shows are Pokemon and Digimon and Power Rangers. I like to play with Lego when Patrick goes to school. I am 12 years old. My favourite thing to do is to play ball outside.
April’s bear Hello my name is Moosey. I am 3 years old. I live with April. I like to colour. When April is at school I make messes in April’s room.
Adam’s bear Hello my name is Rootbear. I am 10 years old I like rootbeer and I like A&W food. I even work at A&W!
Austin’s bear Hello my name is Oshkosh and my other bear friends have lots of fun with me. I like to read Rocket Power chapter books and I like to watch TV and I like to do crafts. My favourite crafts are Digimon and Pokemon. My favourite show is Rocket Power and my favourite chapter book is Rocket Power. I am 8 years old and my birthday is February 19.
Martina’s Bear Hello my name is Mike. When Martina goes to school I like to make a mess. When Martina comes home she looks at the mess. She says, "Mom, somebody made a mess." "Go clean it up," says mom. Martina says, "no". I laugh. I am 7 years old and I like to colour pictures of Martina.
Garrett’s Bear Hello my name is Buddy. I am 6 years old and I live with Garrett and Connor and mom and dad. I like to sleep and play and watch TV.
Alanna’s Bear I met Alanna when she was sick. I made her feel better. When she is gone I am good. I stay where she puts me. When she gets home she says, "good girl". I eat a lot of candy. My birthday is on the 19th of March. I sleep with Alanna. I read to her, she likes it when I read to her.
Jenna’s Bear Hello my name is Bella. I am 6 years old. I live with Jenna and my grandma. I like to read books with Jenna, she is good at reading.
Matthew’s Bear Hi, my name is Snakey. I am called Snakey because I am a snake that likes to slither. I like to play with others. I am fast. My birthday is tomorrow.
Gemma’s Bear Hello our names are Cherries and Purple. When Gemma is at school we invite friends over. We watch TV and eat candy. And you know what? We can count to 100. Our birthday is on August 17th.
Scott’s bear Hello my name is Buddy. I like to play but my favourite thing is swinging on the swingset.
Jessica’s Bear Hello my name is Cuddles. I am 1 year old. I like to run. I like to swim. I like to skip. When Jessica is gone I make a mess in her room. I laugh when Jessica cleans up her room. I do like green.
Kaitlyn’ s Bear My name is Bogin. My birthday is April 1. My favourite show is Oprah and the news. When Kaitlyn is at school I am on the wrestling team. I listen to the radio.
